A Texas woman who became a convicted felon for causing a 2004 car crash that killed her fiancé has learned that General Motors (GM) counts the accident as one of 13 deaths it blames on its defective ignition switches.

Candice Anderson was driving her 2004 Saturn Ion in Canton, Texas, with her fiancé Mikale Erickson in November 2004 when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed. Mr. Erickson, the father of two small children, was killed. Ms. Anderson was thrown through the windshield and barely survived the crash herself. The vehicle’s airbags never deployed.

Police could find no causes for the crash – no skid marks or other evidence that would indicate why the crash occurred. Tests showed that Ms. Anderson was drug- and alcohol-free at the time of the crash. Tests showed that she had only a trace amount of anti-anxiety medication in her system at the time.

Until we get right with the Lord, we won’t be able to defend against such scandal.

Whoa, convicted of killing your fiance’ because of a mechanical defect that GM tried to hide. What a travesty.

Blood on the hands of GM.

Tell me why we bailed them out again?

For sheer raw crude politics.

A brand like that was worth too much for the pieces not to be snapped up. But that incarnation of the corporation? It needed to go by the boards.

It was a plea deal... if it had been forced into a courtroom battle she might have won, but drastically impoverished and some lawyer would be strutting fatter pockets.

Somehow when the charge is this egregiously bad, there ought to be a provision that government pays... and how MUCH it pays ought to be an item clearly visible to the tax payer.

If there is justice in the world she will be, however she truly needs to trust the matter to God. God can get past evil that mere worldly efforts can’t.

Ms. Anderson was thrown through the windshield

That's painful. I recommend seatbelts. Much higher reliability factor vs. electronics.

As this happened before their bankruptcy, does the liability live on with the bailed out GM? I dunno.

True, it sounds like she (and her fiance passenger) had skipped the belts. While I disagree with making safety belts mandatory to wear, there is every reason in the world to consider them very wise and to require them to be present in all cars.

Not so fast grasshopper. All potential liabilities prior to 2009 belong to the "old" GM and the "new" GM cannot be held liable. Another gift from Obama.

They weren't necessarily unbuckled, I know of two instances where the seat belt attachment points were ripped out in a crash.
Both individuals survived, thank God.
One was in a Dodge truck, not a really bad crash, truck was repairable, the other was a GM car, bad crash.

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

Don’t think for an instant that GM will not try to hide behind it’s bankruptcy to avoid any obligation to pay for the damages. They are a NEW company the old GM is now a holding company of worthless closed factories and assets.

The prosecuting attorneys in this country need to start being held liable for their abuses. There should have been no charges in in the first place.
