What does D C code say?

How is it possible to run a red light if the funeral procession does not stop at red lights?

Maybe up in DC things are done differently. In these parts, there is a police escort from the funeral home to the burial - no stopping at lights or anything. And all other cars pull over and stop until the procession has gone by.

“What does D C code say?”

DC laws do not apply in Virginia.

I don’t know, if you’re far enough back that a cop not part of the procession escort can pull you over I don’t think you’re in the procession anymore.

It's Arlington. They have myriad rules and regulations. They have to. They are mostly government hierarchy and drones who cannot live without being told what to do.

Funeral processions never stop at red lights, I’ve never seen them do so, AND cops usually escort said procession.
So something wacky going on here.

My father’s funeral procession was escorted by his great-nephew who was a police captain. Some idiot tried to cut in front of the procession. Bad move.

Around here, the leader of the procession communicates via cellphone with a fellow employee who brings up the rear, and they coordinate - instead of running red lights they wait on the shoulder with hazards until the rest can catch up.

In Virginia (where the stop was) the Driver's Manual says:
You must yield to funeral processions. Do not cut through, join or interfere with a funeral procession. Unless led by a police escort, the lead vehicle in a funeral procession must obey all traffic signs and signals.

Other drivers in the procession may follow carefully without stopping and may use hazard lights (flashers) to indicate they are in the procession

The cop was in the wrong.

Some flaming idiot hadn't hit their ticket quota. If the driver had a funeral decal, DON'T interfere! If a cop dies, they shut down and entire town for the procession.

I'm at an age where I've driven in may funeral processions in MI and TX. None stop at red lights and traffic pulls over and yields right of way at intersections.

With cars bumper to bumper, what person crossing that traffic would pull into the procession?

The officer was wrong. He used very bad judgment.

If he truly had a problem, take the license down and make a citation later.

Used too funeral homes either put a clip on flag on the vehicles window gutter or a magnetic one on the roof or food of the car. With todays car designs & plastics etc I guess a mirror placard is the only universal place left. Yes head lights were supposed to be on. You followed the Limo & hearse and did not stop for signals etc. People had some common sense. So did cops.
