Rep. Raul Labrador on Tuesday made his case to be elected as House majority leader by saying that he can unify the Republican conference better than Rep. Kevin McCarthy and that he will end the leaderships top-down approach to members.
What weve had is kind of a top-down approach where you talk to members of Congress and they feel like theyre totally irrelevant, Labrador said on Fox and Friends. One of my friends told me that he feels that 80 percent of the conference feels that they are irrelevant because everything is done by the leaders here.
McCarthy is regarded as the frontrunner in the race to replace Rep. Eric Cantor in the House post.
I think what I can do is bring the party together, bring the conference together, much better than Kevin McCarthy, said Labrador, a sophomore Republican from Idaho. I want every member to contribute, I want every member to participate in the process and to know that their ideas, whether they are good or bad, theyre going to be heard.
Labrador only has two more days to collect the needed 118 votes ahead of Thursdays House GOP vote.
Were close, he said on Fox. We still have a lot of work to do but weve talked to a lot of people, a lot of people are switching their votes and theyre really excited about having someone challenging the establishment right now.

More and more, when I read something from Politco, I get the impression that there is an agenda with them.
“More and more, when I read something from Politco, I get the impression that there is an agenda with them.”
Oh, you’re absolutely right. They’re the propaganda arm of the democratic party. But some of their stories still give insights.
One of my friends told me that he feels that 80 percent of the conference feels that they are irrelevant because everything is done by the leaders here.
So one of his friends FEELS that 80% think they are irrelevant.
That’s pretty darn sound. Quite a thorough analysis of the “conference”.
I want every member to contribute, I want every member to participate in the process and to know that their ideas, whether they are good or bad, theyre going to be heard.
Well Kumbaya!
This guy is talking empty blather and empty platitudes.
“Theyre the propaganda arm of the democratic party.”
One of many.
Politico is free in DC. It seems to target inside beltway players. And those outside with the same interest.
La Raza operative Raul Labrador promises to pass amnesty in 2015
Well, he’s the ONLY conservative who stepped up to the plate to challenge McCarthy.
Boehner set up a nice little chain of command in the Majority Leader, Whip and Conference Chair positions, as well as the committee chairs, so that no conservatives EVER get into a leadership position.
They must be challenged by somebody, and Labrador is the only one to do it. There will be more elections at the end of the year after the elections. Even if McCarthy gets the nod, he can be weakened.
Have you checked his record? Do you know anything about him, big mouth? I guess you'd rather have the GOPe guy, sophomore.
This is not a news story. It’s racist bullshit. Labrador openly announced that he opposes the GOP leadership amnesty position months ago.
Just what the heck is "conservative" about anyone who wants amnesty and open borders with massive hordes of criminal aliens swarming across, eating out the substance of the USA, stealing, killing, robbing, raping, and screaming for the deaths of everyone who does not belong to "The Race"?
That is what "La Raza" is all about. It is not "conservative", and neither is anyone who gives them the time of day.
Labrador said it. Not me.
It is interesting all you can do is make personal insults.
That really will gain people considering your argument.
With all due respect, Paul Labrador couldn't unite the Idaho Republican Convention. I'm not sure he could unite the Republicans in Congress.
Labrador: "The Senate comprehensive bill repeats the mistakes of the 1986 amnesty. I will oppose any legislation such as the Senate bill that is based on the philosophy of legalization first, border security later."
Take your pick.
He couldn’t unite the GOP convention because the Tea Party conservatives wouldn’t back down to the GOPe. IMHO, that is a good thing. We’re fighting back. Perhaps you would prefer a nice fuzzy compromise with the statists?
I have no problem telling know-nothings that they know nothing. Some people have nothing to say, but they say it anyway.
I agree with you on Amnesty. But there are nevertheless only two men vying for the position of Majority Leader. Which would YOU choose??
McCarthy 56% (Average) 42% (Heritage) 53% (CFG) 73% (FreedomWorks)
Labrador 85% (Average) 77% (Heritage) 86% (CFG) 92% (FreedomWorks)
Propaganda won't work here. He is not for open borders. Read what HE says, not what your racist screed says.
Double down!
Wow. You are tough.
Hard Ball, Doctor!
So what makes him sure he can unite the Congressional delegation? The same problems exist there.
