Emails don't get "lost." Any government official who claims it is a lying abuser. Any reporter who doesn't mock and expose is a presstitute. There needs to be a 21st century version of tar and feathers to humiliate these scoundrels.

There’s so much redundancy in computer databanks anymore that it’s virtually certain that the computer crash excuse is yet another lie and gesture of contempt by this PUNK we elected as president.

The last company I worked for had a written policy that emails would be automatically, permanently deleted after 30 days. They could not be retrieved no matter how important they were. This was instituted after the Microsoft lawsuit where relatively minor and some major players wrote incredibly stupid and lawsuit supporting statements.

What does the NSA know, and What does their Meta Data Reveal?

A Freedom of Information request by Judicial Watch is all that is needed.

Even if the gov had a policy like that, they likely have a backup tape somewhere that could be pulled.

Your Emails have been
“lost”?
That is such a 20th Century type of lie. Whoever cooked up that halfbaked excuse must be somebody about my age, close to 60. The younger folks, and the ‘still-learning-elders’
would know better than to even go through such a ridiculous charade. Try again. Aren’t the American people worth a better lie than that? Or better still, how bout seeking immunity then telling the truth now vs after ten years and four billion in court costs are spent needlessly.

Well you elect principled people who will prosecute those that lie, cheat and use their authority to subvert. It ain’t rocket surgery.

To expect a group of Charlie Sheens bent on WINNING! no matter what to suddenly give to craps about ‘what’ after being elected is the mentality children have. Fantasy logic.

Want justice served? Stop electing the people that ensure it won’t be. Stop electing the people that go out of their way to drag investigations out for years so a criminal is never held to account.

Stop electing the RINOs. Anyone want to argue against it? Please do. But you have to be pretty foolish to try.

Why do we need a 21st century version? Is there something wrong with the 18th century version?

I’ll bet they were referring to emails deleted from email files available on individual workstations, and the emails were still available in some databank if need be.

“I’ll bet they were referring to emails deleted from email files available on individual workstations, and the emails were still available in some databank if need be.”

The stated intention was that they would be unavailable if somebody subpoenaed them. So, I’d bet they were unavailable, period. (Some of the tippy-top management sent around emails that would make you raise your eyebrows and say, “damn, how stupid to put that in writing.” I think that was why they did it, rather than try to train management not to be stupid.)

The US Government has a general policy that certain “business” emails cannot be deleted and must be saved in the “electronic archives” for future preservation at the National Archives.

I cannot delete work-related emails eventhough mine are work-product protected. However, we are backed up (in theory every night).

The IRS coverup is the break ISSA and others needed to hold the IRS as an unit in contempt of Congress, if not in Criminal Contempt re destroying government documents under a presentation order.

Time for a federal grand jury to investigate. Only problem is that it would come under the Holder/Cole Dept. of Justice jurisdiction, and they cannot be trusted to wipe their ass properly.

They would comprise the most honest District Attorney and his investigation.

Congress needs to establish a Select Committee on the IRS with every subpoena and punishment power the law allows.

Then make Joe McCarthy look like an amateur.

Do a Sam Ervin/Welch job on the IRS. Down and dirty!

“I should say. That sounds illegal.”

We addressed that and the legal department said that as long as that was the written policy and they adhered to it, it was legal. If you don’t keep the records they can’t be subpoenaed. And, given some of the things their tippy-top management committed to bytes I’d rather have a judge smack me for not keeping records and order me to keep them, rather than have a smoking t*rd show up in court. But, I any time I got something that smelled bad, I printed it out and took it home.

Maybe thicker tar & different feathers, but it’s hard to improve on a proven formula. I believe it works every time it’s been used, too.

Subpoena the integrator and find out why it charged the taxpayer millions of dollars for an unreliable system.

Whats really ironic is that, according to my accountant, the IRS’s requirement for small business owners to keep tax records - everything - is almost unlimited.

From the NYT article today: “The agency said that because of financial and computing constraints, some emails had been stored only on individuals’ computers and not on servers, and that “backup tapes” from 2011 “no longer exist because they have been recycled.”
