Republicans are sounding the warning that the next 9/11-like terror plot could emerge from the regions of Iraq and Syria that are currently dominated by an extremist group bearing down on Baghdad.
As the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) - which has already captured the cities of Tikrit and Mosul and is threatening to take the capital city as well - grows in strength and numbers, will it pose an immediate threat to the United States homeland as well?
Experts say the group's increasing power and reach is concerning, though it's not entirely clear when they might be able to threaten the U.S.
"You've got motivation mixed with opportunity, ideology and foreign fighters and all of that looks like a very extreme version of Afghanistan in the '90s, plus what was happening in Iraq after the Iraq war," said CBS News National Security Analyst Juan Zarate. "This is a cauldron of future terrorist threats to the west."
The bigger danger, Zarate said, is that the U.S. does not yet know exactly what the group will look like once it evolves. While ISIS might not launch an attack on U.S. soil tomorrow, he said, "I think the grave threat here is that you have the seeds of a new terrorist movement emerging very aggressively."

They may do so just for fun. But it really is not necessary, since Obama officially surrendered us to the Global Caliphate on May 31.
And we will be reeling so much from the tsunami of Obama’s Alien Army of Cultural Destruction coming in from the south that our new mohammedan masters will have a pretty easy time of it.
It looks like somebody already beat you to the idea... Pox
Open season on muzzies when it happens although barry will attempt his Martial Law desire at that point.
If they do so while the current regime is still in power, they can do so with impunity. Mecca will continue to exist and Islam will be safe.
You’re dreaming, kid. But I wonder why your dreams are for millions to die in the USA.
With one son commuting to Manhattan and the other living and working in D.C., I figure we've got about a 25% chance of losing one in the next Islamic bio/chem/nuke attack. Should that happen no male adult Muslim or Muslim enabler is safe. This harmless looking old man will play a deadly version of knockout on any identifiable Muslim.
Of course, it would make more sense to strike them preemptively, but we're the good guys, we don't do that.
Bet your Butt on it.
Why use schachel nukes? An EMP attack is logistically simpler, more efficient, and far more devastating. It will take us off the board. Within 18 months it is likely eighty percent of Americans will be dead. Then the Chinese, Ruskies, and Muzzies can attack the world at will.
Sure, maybe in science fiction.
Don’t seem too far fetched
What technology do you propose to generate an EMP sufficient to take even one city block offline?
Tuned nuclear weapons detonated about 100 miles up. Three to four could due in most of the electronics in the country. That means computers, cars, trucks, airplanes, much of the electric grid, motors etc will be destroyed. Interesting that missile tests by our enemies, such as the DPRK, fail around that altitude.
That’s the attack you consider “logistically simpler” than a satchel nuke? Multiple tuned nuclear weapons detonated in low-Earth orbit over targets?
Yep. Three or four freighters. Three or four non miniturized war heads. Three or four two-bit missiles. The Norks will be able to do it soon enough. The Iranians will be able to do it in a bit. Any present nuclear power in the world can do it. And the delivery systems are not in orbit. Low or otherwise. The only defense presently is our ABM system. And the dims will destroy that soon enough.
And this is supposed to be simpler to do than detonating a suitcase nuke in an urban center? We must have some different definitions of “simpler.”
Guess so.
