Casey Kasem has died.
ABC News confirmed that the radio personality died today in a California hospital. He was 82.
Born Kemal Amin Kasem in Detroit, the disc jockey began his career in nearby Flint before becoming an announcer on Armed Forces Radio Korea Network in 1952. Upon his return, he went on to work at radio stations in California, Ohio and New York before launching "American Top 40" in 1970. He hosted that show until 1988, and then a revived version from 1998 until 2004, when Ryan Seacrest took over. From 1988 until 1998, Kasem hosted a show called "Casey's Top 40."
"Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars," was how he ended every program.

REST IN PEACE!
He went up to the Big Peach in the sky located over Georgia!
And the family starts suing each other in 3....2....
He was a public icon I bumped into only rarely. When I did, he seemed like a decent positive individual. I’ll miss the guy.
Evidently so will a number of men who served in Korea.
lol - that’s what I thought. Is that what they say in Georgia for rest in peace?
Yep, I also listened to the countdown every week.
He retired from the final version of his countdown show in 2009. At the time, it was reported he retired to have more time for other projects. But now we know he was in declining health at that time.
I hope the family fued will end. I hope there is not a big fight over his estate, or ongoing recriminations over who did what, or who said what, during his final illness.
RIP.
Ponderous.
Keep reaching for the Stars Casey....RIP
In Idaho, they say “Rest in Potatoes.”
Rest in peace, Mr. Kasem.
No, but we should.

Ha. I saw what you did.
My young adult life was spent listening to him...
Loved your countdown shows, Casey! You finished at number two in my book (#1 being Dick Clark).
Very liberal. Supported McGovern, Nader and Kucinich.
He was #1 on the all time Top 40.
His dedications on "American Top Forty" could be quite moving. I recall his reading a letter from a listener before playing Asia's Only Time Will Tell that was one of the most poignant things I ever heard.
And those who withheld food and water, as though that is “medical treatment”, will now have access to his earthly fortune...
