Washington (AFP) - President Barack Obama renewed his campaign to curb carbon emissions Saturday, saying the debate over climate change is over.
Obama, who made the battle against climate change a core promise of his 2008 election campaign, has been stymied at the federal level by opposition from lawmakers.
Congress "is full of folks who stubbornly and automatically reject the scientific evidence," Obama told a crowd of more than 30,641 people, including thousands of graduates at the University of California, Irvine.
"They'll tell you climate change is a hoax, or a fad. One says the world might actually be cooling."
Two weeks ago, Obama unveiled a contentious plan to cut carbon emissions from US power plants by 30 percent from 2005 levels by 2030.

I refuse to discuss globule warming with anyone until they look up a few facts on the net. I ask them to find out what % of the atmosphere is CO2, and what percentage of that is man’s contribution. I’ve actually had a few exclaim, “It’s that little?”
So, Obummer is going to be walking to the golf course I assume.
We need to get rid of this clown ASAP. Impeachment, declare the 2012 election null/void due to fraud, declare the guy unqualified by birth, rule him out on a section 8 or whatever it takes.

Shale gas production is increasing and will continue to increase for a long time. Shale gas is where it’s at. Shale gas also produces less pollution. Natural gas will also be replacing diesel as fuel in many freight trucks.
So regardless of which socialist figurehead or political party is in office, the trend will continue. The lobbies are in control. The political celebrities only do their bidding.
To make it more clear, there will be fewer coal-fired power plants and more power plants fired with natural gas.
Obama’s bizarre anti carbon crusade will have virtually no affect on climate change. As the cost of electricity rises, the standard of living declines. Come to the conclusion that Obama is hopelessly stupid.
Another thing... Use more natural gas and less coal, and natural gas and electricity prices will go up. That would attract more investors. Attract more investors, and investment prices go up. Many of the investors are government pension funds, individual government employees and pensioners and more. Export more liquified natural gas and propane, and prices will go up further.
Many investors have been running to commodities for years—even commodities previously, commonly believed to be too risky for most. Where else to keep money these days? Where else to make much money on investments?
The total size of the lobbies is enormous.
Impeach, impeach, impeach.
It should be child’s play to point out that Obama has no intention of limiting CO2. Republicans should streamline a bill to fund nuclear power plants to replace all coal powered plants, with the cost to pay for these plants to be paid for by dedicated bonds repaid by the ratepayers so there’s no long term deficit increase.
And not the idiotic GE reactors that produce tons of waste. They should be thorium molten salt and pebble bed reactors that are intrinsically safe and can convert existing nuke waste to fuel. The technology’s there, there’s no possible leg to stand on against it, and Harry Reid and Obama will pee their pants because it makes too much sense so they will have to oppose it.
The added benefit is it will reduce long term utility rates and provide thousands and thousands of good paying jobs.
Get out in front of this you GOP morons. You could shove this up the Kenyan’s lower pie hole but good.
CO2 is 0.04% but it warms the O2 and N2 because it is radiatively active and those other gases are not. Mankind has essentially pushed it from 0.028% up to 0.04% (and rising). Without mankind CO2 would have risen from 0.028% to maybe 0.029% at the most.
