Dropped wallets, mile-long lines to buy a hotdog, and stolen cash are a thing of the past - at least at music festivals in Sweden.
Cash is no longer king. Many Swedish music festivals will soon be entirely cashless, organizers announced on Friday.
"All festival armbands will have chips," said Niklas Westergren, marketing director at FKP Scorpio, one of the largest organizers of music festivals in Sweden. "Before the festival begins, people can create a profile where they can add their bank details."
Instead of keeping track of cash, festival-goers can transfer money from their accounts and then just swipe their armbands to make purchases. If the money loaded on the armband runs out, there will be filling-stations on the festival grounds to make additional transfers. Any funds left over on the armband would be automatically transferred back to the user's bank account after the festival.
"It takes much less time to make purchases this way," Westergren said.
The concept is "well-established" at festivals abroad, and was tested in Sweden for the first time at the rock festival Sthlm Fields which took place in May. Bråvalla, an international music festival in Norrköping at the end of June, will also use the system. Wireless festival payment systems were rolled out at several events in the UK in 2012, and the first multi-day cashless festival in the US took place in May at Mysterland.
Festivals may be the next stepping stone on Sweden's way to becoming a cashless society. Only 27 percent of retail sales are made in cash, and those numbers would be even lower if online sales were included.

A woman I know who owns 23 rental units says more of her renters are paying in cash. Banks charge fees if you don’t keep enough money in the account so they’ve closed their accounts and gone all cash.
The more likely problem would be stolen armband used to run up a large bill (and the original user stuck with it). Not much of this would be needed to spoil the concept.
If it HAS to be done, why not one of those fingerprint verifiers too.
Any technology can get misused with evil intent.
Small population, and affluent, they can lead with technology.
What could POSSIBLY go wrong? *SMIRK*
"Upload your sensitive data to our secure server. Do it today." Because if you can't trust a stoned-out rock fan system administrator whose name is "Yevgeni" and works remotely from the Russian Business Network in Moscow, well, who can you trust?

Here in NJ there is more to it; as the state turns into a Third World toilet we are regressing to the primitive societies and economies from which our new Third World residents come. Just as in southern CA, these imported “replacement Americans” have no intention of contributing anything (while they consume on the taxpayers’ teat), and most importantly for the open-borders advocates: these people have no intention of contributing to Social Security.
I work with an unassimilated American who was bemoaning the fact that her elderly mother had to go back to work because her Social Security wasn’t sufficient. When I asked what her mother had done for a living throughout her working years, she replied that she had cared for children for cash; the irony was lost on her (after I described how Social Security payments were calculated) when she said her mother wouldhave to return to caring for children...for cash.
I wonder how long the willfully blind will choose to remain blind?
” the fact that her elderly mother had to go back to work because her Social Security wasnt sufficient.”

I’m elderly and most of my friends are elderly yet NOT ONE of us was stupid enough to think we could live on SS.
We did not work for cash so our payments would be larger than this woman’s would be, but there is no way we could live on it.
Are the words “planning ahead” too difficult for these people?

I’m guessing you and your friends haven’t had everything (housing, food, etc.) handed to you for decades. To the perpetually unassimilated underclass, “planning ahead” is meaningless; the government administrators handle all of their decisions for them. For these creatures to understand how Social Security is funded and disbursed is far beyond them (and they don’t want to know)...
