Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) is well ahead of his Republican primary challenger but polling under 50 percent a few months ahead of his August primary, a new poll provided exclusively to Breitbart News shows.
Alexander leads Tea Party-backed state Rep. Joe Carr 44-20, the Triton Polling poll of approximately 1037 likely GOP primary voters and conducted Wednesday this week found. The poll was commissioned by Tea Party Nation.
Polling in the race has been sparse, but the new poll shows higher support for Carr and lower support for Alexander than other surveys. A February North Star Strategies poll had Alexander up 62-17 while one released last week from the same firm had Alexander up 56-14.
Alexander's approval rating in the new poll voters who either strongly or somewhat approve of his job performance was 57 percent approval rating.
Carrs name ID is rising in the state. 68 percent of Tennessee GOP primary voters know Carr the poll found. Twenty percent had a positive impression of him while 8 percent had a negative impression. Thirty-eight percent had no opinion on him.
Other candidateslike Dr. George Flinn, who has been suspected of being a spoiler candidate Alexander brought in to weaken Carrs chancesbarely register in the poll.
More than 57 percent of GOP primary voters say they would either very likely or likely support a conservative challenger to Alexander, and 25 percent answered they werent sure when asked that questionso it seems Carrs biggest challenge between now and election day in early August is raising his name ID. Only 14.5 percent said it was unlikely or very unlikely theyd support a conservative challenger to Alexander, while 3.4 percent said they werent sure or didnt know.

I agree Lamar is a Dem plant and amnesty shill.
Uh oh. Time to pull out that flannel shirt and drive around in a pickup truck again . . . . .
IMHO @ 44% he is beatable.
To Tenn Freeper's what gets under your skin that should be a focal point for Mr. Carr?
BTW, when is the Tenn primary?
Ah, the Primary is in August...
August 7th. A Thursday. Totally bizarre but probably implemented to fool the people. But if conservatives know the date, we can take him out!
Coming to that from basically zero % name recognition in December is an amazing accomplishment.
I like the fewer candidates strategy.
Just emailed link to my sister in Tennessee.
“Coming to that from basically zero % name recognition in December is an amazing accomplishment.”
And that’s key. Half of politician’s votes come from name recognition!
There was no mention of what the business and industry of Tennessee think of Carr.
Although I favor Lamar’s replacement, I see no candidate that is capable. I see no candidate besides Lamar with the strong support of business and industry. I know, I know, Cantor had the money and support and lost.
Tennessee is Republican but not conservative.
I cite upper east Tennessee. In a fragmented field, a very strong conservative was elected to the Congress. He was defeated in the next election by a more moderate but still conservative Republican Phil Roe. This district is perhaps the most conservative in the state.
I’m posting my analysis, not my desires.
This sly old crooked anus was already old and puckered when I was old and puckered. Has anyone held a mirror under his nose? He may have died around 1973, right after Don Imus made fun of him during an interview and he was too dumb to notice.
Sheesh! No wonder the GOP is in trouble. This guy has been grifting pork since I was a Cub Scout. Democrat? Republican? Lamar doesn't much care, just keep the money coming.
The February poll ( Lamar ahead 62-17) resembles the Cantor poll his people took just before the election. I wonder if Cantor can demand a refund...Also, no polls as yet reflect the imminent defeat of Thad Cochran..that will reverberate..
Some of the elderly people here make me SO mad. They do the same thing on the local elections and we have the same old corrupt politicians in office forever! They keep voting for the same person because they vote for what they know, no matter how bad they are. They can’t handle change. Grrrr!
Hopefully the younger conservatives will show up and overrule them this August.
I voted for Davis, but felt that he suffered from a personality / charisma deficit. I have no problem with Roe - in fact he spoke at the “Stand Up for Religious Liberty” rally that the Mrs organized.
Need to get him at least thinking about helping Lamar have more time with his family. Did you see that Timothy Hill and Tony Clark endorsed Carr? Need to work on Matthew as well.
Here are the republican senators conservative averages. Copy this and show this to all the elderly you know. Show them how far down the list Alexander is, especially if they like Ted Cruz. If they just want to keep on voting for Old Lamar, there’s nothing you can do. But if they’re thinking people, give them something to think about. They can’t deny his voting record.

Support Joe Carr to oust Lamar!
Perhaps Cantor can tell Lamar how accurate polls are.
Lamar Alexander will not lose. TN is a red state but loves moderate Republicans. Once the Maine sisters were split up, Corker and Alexander became the top RINO tag team. Although McCain and Flake are pretty close too.
