I always thought the same thing. The enemy we are fighting today has no moral code or honor. Mind as well try and take a few of them out with you, at least that would be my policy. Not sure if you’ve seen the show TURN on AMC, but it makes you think about how the whole concept has changed since the Revolutionary War era.

They aren’t surrendering in the normal sense. They do not want to fight them. They will probably join them.
They are fellow Sunni. And they are devout. A muslim always feels unmanned by someone more muslim than he.
