Well, gee, $1 trillion or so just doesnt buy what it used to. Take Iraq, for example.
Or, should I say: Take Iraq, please, someone and fix it. Fend off the nasty Islamic fighters of ISIS and keep that miserable sinkhole for American lives and money from coming back to bite us again.
Do you understand now, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, John Bolton and all you neocon nutjobs, why the invasion of Iraq in 2003 wasnt a very good idea?
President Obama sure does. Because now hes neck deep in another crisis in this place, a country he thought he had gotten us out of, as he promised to do.
Now, I do have one somewhat off-the-wall option: Send Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney over there and let them try to negotiate a solution. And tell them they cant come home until theyre successful. After all, theyre the ones who created this mess in the first place.

Obama told us he had won the war there! and that AlQuada was defeated!
lol
what a freaking moron. Obama managed to lose a war we had already won.
Yes it was and while I think we were not violent enough in Iraq the post SOFA conditions in Iraq were all heading in the right direction until it expired in 2011. Obama, politically motivated, failed to renew an SOFA and abandoned Iraq to his ridiculous hope and change meme, the international version.
There is a reason that we have had troops in Europe, Japan and Korea all these years and the cost of doing that was much less than fighting more wars with German nuts, Japanese nuts and Korean nuts.
The notion of fortress America is a left wing pipe dream embraced by a number of right wingers and libertarians as well. The only thing that prevents jihadists from planning and executing high profile strikes on Americans and American interests is soldiers killing them on a daily basis.
Good post!
According to my daughter, half of my SIL’s platoon was killed taking Fallujah. They are both sick thinking about the men they knew who died only to have everything squandered when the children took over the USA in 2008.
But don’t worry! Our embassy in Israel is flying the gay flag under the US flag, so THEIR priorities are right! And I’m sure the Muslim countries won’t notice...
I guess they plan on bringing back the truck convoy of Weapons of Mass Destruction that went from Sadaam to Syria during the six months we waited to attack, it was shown on Satellite.
All but the 550 metric tons of yellow cake Bush found in the desert in Iraq and sold to a company in Canada....our soldiers had to sit on it three years it was so close to the Iran border. AP and Canada Free Press only two to report on it until recently...Yes, Bush/Cheney were right, but don’t expect anyone to ever admit it.
Oh baloney. This current mess would have never been allowed to materialize to the point it has at present as it would have been nipped in the bud when it first started happening - not sitting around doing nothing until half the country had been taken over - if they had even attempted something like this while Bush and Cheney were in power. Al Qaeda is now the strongest it has ever been in its history, the Baath Party is resurgent - and that is squarely because of Obama’s policies. Period.
Good idea. Put Bush and Cheney back in office.

It is easy to look back with 20/20 vision.
Obastard is a muslim...plain and simple. He can feign ignorance or incompetence to hide his outright collaboration with our sworn enemies
Bush and Cheney knew exactly what they were doing and many of us agreed with the decision to invade. (I still believe that it was the right thing to do). However, the only fault with their prosecution of the war was the softness of the victory. We did not go in and occupy with the strength we did in Japan. The total victory, complete re-arrangment of their culture.
Islam is not the same as Shintoism. It is the incarnation of evil, Allah is the devil as we understand it and there is no negotiating with them. It must be destroyed completely. Every aspect of it must be destroyed, lest they destroy us. And they intend to destroy every aspect of our western civilization. It is going to be WWIII and it is going to be worse than WWII by several orders of magnitude.
There is no problem that Bush hasn't left behind that Obama himself hasn't made WORSE.
Iraq was won. Obama lost it. We have Obama to thank for this mess. The list of Obama Messes just keeps growing, and growing, and growing ....
The insurgency was of no importance, except that a large, out-of-place American army was there for their target practice.
The enemy was in Riyadh and Islamabad, and there they remain, undisturbed.
I agree. But we have to remember that the Dems were on the attack, and about 2 weeks after 9/11, the Dems adopted the side of our enemies and would not cooperate with Bush at all. Bush was never good at standing up to partisan attacks, and once the press got on the bandwagon, I don't think he had any idea how to handle it. Who would?
But still, the occupation would have worked, although more slowly, if we had simply stayed for the last few years. But Obama took even our low level of forces out immediately, even though the Iraqis knew and warned about exactly what would happen - and it's happening now.
The secret is that Obama, frankly, doesn't give a damn. In fact, this is probably his dream come true. The defeat of the US.
I agree. The softness of Iraq and Afghanistan and toward the region and Jihadist elements in general was the biggest mistake.
There should be no Taliban left just like there were no Nazis left after WWII.
But the Taliban is about to retake it.
I think Obama is more a secular Marxist, hardcore, than Muslim, but he is Muslim under Islamic Law and he has affection for Islam.
If the Muslim world were anti-Marxist and pro-US, I don’t think he’d have this affection and Muslim sentiment, despite his background as, per Sharia Law, a Muslim.
These current events are very troubling.
What on earth does "fight terror" mean?
That is one of the stupidest formulations of war strategy in the history of warfare.
The enemy commanders operate untouched in Riyadh and Islamabad. Farting around taking casualties for twice as long as it took to conquer Germany and Japan, and thinking it's a smart warplan, is a serious, serious problem.
What a joke you are. If Bill Clinton would have been as interested in terrorism, starting with the Mogadishu debacle, as he was a nineteen year old piece of a$$, we might not have lost 3000 people on 9/11. I am a proud supporter of GWB, and you can KMA.
Sec Berger emphasized the U.S. desire for a diplomatic settlement. “We
want to resolve this peacefully,” Berger said, “but there are some
things worth fighting for. And those include fighting aggression,
fighting people who threaten their neighbors, and fighting to make
this world a safer and more secure place for my children and for
yours.”
CNN town hall meeting Columbus, Ohio Feb 18, 1998
Nothing true about it. This would have been nipped in the bud to start with, if they even attempted it, if Bush (or probably anyone else) were President.
Actually pretty brilliant plan if in fact this is the outcome. I will let you digest that thought.
And, this proves Bush correct. This is exactly what Bush administration thought would happen if we did not not do anything.
What I mean is to take the fight, to those that want to destroy the west. Bring the battle to their soil. Either that, or close our borders and become an isolated country.
I refer you to post 53.
This particular war has been going on for over 1300 years. Tours, the Crusades, Constantinople, Vienna, Khartoum, etc. were all battles in the same war.
Our withdrawal won't end the war, either. It will go on, as before.
Previously, the primitive nature of Muslim culture, mobility and technology has limited their attacks on the West to intermittent outbursts in generally remote locations.
The internet, the airplane and nuclear proliferation have changed all that.
This war isn't going to last another 1300 years. And it's still going to have to be fought -- if western culture is to survive.
