The group so extreme it got booted from al Qaeda controls huge swaths of territory. And now ISIS has got the heavy weaponry to back it up.
With the fall of Mosul on Tuesday, Iraqs al Qaeda offshoot has not only seized the countrys second-largest city, it appears it also has come into possession of the heavy weapons and vehicles the U.S. military had provided Iraqs military to fight them.
Thats terrible news for Americas few allies left in Iraq as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham (ISIS) morph from terrorist menace to a military force capable of over-running an army the U.S. military trained for nearly a decade. It also calls into question the American governments decision to withdraw the last of its forces from Iraq in 2011. Three years later that withdrawal now appears premature.
ISIS themselves appear to be pleased with the booty of the Mosul campaign. On Twitter the group posted a photo of a beaming Umar al-Shishani, a senior ISIS commander, examining a captured American-made Humvee, which had already been driven from the Iraqi city to the eastern Syrian town of Deir ez-Zor. Umar al-Shishani inspects spoils of war
Looks quite pleased, the tweet said.

Gosh! Who saw that coming?
I guess that’s what happens when you go into a fight half committed and fail to finish it decisively.
Isn’t that what hussein is planning for this country with his civilian army?
Logistically, its much easier to seize the weapons you need by invading Iraq instead of shipping them from Libya .
Since they failed in their bid to oust Assad take control of syria , we are beginning to see the strategy emerging of slicing off big slices of Syria and western Iraq to create al-Qaedastan as a new terrorist state to luanch the conquest of Syria and Iraq
Pretty clever
These very same guys are being trained by the US to fight in Syria as we speak.
Kewl, huh?
Yep, they are already shipping arms and vehicles over to Syria.
Right you are. And your statement is true for Afghanistan as well as for Iraq. Both wars will ultimately end as Vietnam did, with helicopters evacuating people from the roof of the US embassy.
As far as fault goes, the great majority of it lies with Bush II. To excuse Bush because Obama is in power is like excusing LBJ because Ford was president when Saigon fell.
The only historical difference here is that Ford truly hated to see how things turned out.
Sure, the US is sharpening the alligator’s teeth not believing that they will ever get bitten.
George W. Bush is not a “jr.” and you are rewriting the history of Iraq and the UN and the United States, and terrorist training camps and Saddam’s seeking to become the leader of Islam.
I imagine those characters are moving parts. Trained and ready by the dummies in DC.
Framing the enemy army as “terrorists” was a stupid PR-driven idea in the beginning, and it hasn’t improved with age.
They were not ready for democracy—you can’t force it upon them. Then, we elected Obama—maybe we are not ready for it—a few spots on TV—some cool slogans and we elected Obama two times! Just go on the View or Leno and your in—Need a good deal of positive press and who needs democracy? Obama and his crew have looted and ruined the nation—now he is sentencing to death by beheading all who did suport us in Iraq.
Bush again? Why not spread the blame around where it belongs bro? Lets start with the overwhelming vote in favor of going to war by both the Senate and the House of Representatives, shall we?
Then lets follow up with the equal approval of the citizens of this country who were all gung-ho to kick ass in Iraq..with the exception of the libtards who never fail to ignore any threats to this country both home and abroad..(sounds like that might include you).
....And of course there was also the UN approval (with the exception of France and Germany who we all know now why they were opposed to the war......HeHeHe) You are aware of the Food for Oil Scandal aren't you?.
And last but not least, the all VOLUNTEER military who proudly went to Iraq to serve this country.........
As for the years long media attack against Bush, which you seem to have glomned on to, here's some facts which never made the front pages of the media you obviously read.
1. "No WMD's were ever found in Iraq"
Syria's Chemical Weapons Came From Saddam's Iraq
2. No nuclear weapons material was ever found in Iraq according to the UN weapons inspectors......(The Germans and the French again.....HeHeHe)
500 tons of uranium shipped from Iraq, Pentagon says
And last but not least, these images from Iraq which include the deaths of private contractors at the hands of the terrorist extremists and the bodies of the citizens who were murderd/tortured at the hand of Saddam Hussein........
If you are willing to accept and ignore the systematic genocide that was taking place under the Hussein regime then you have neither a conscience nor a claim to being a Christian..............
For Obama, the worse things get in Iraq, the better for the Democratic argument that Bush made a terrible mistake removing Saddam from power. So he is probably gloating over the latest turn of events in Iraq.
In a way, he is right. If the Iraqis won’t fight to keep their freedom, then it sure as hell isn’t worth American lives.
...and to top it off, didn’t the US taxpayer fund the building of the largest and most expensive US embassy ever in Baghdad? That will probably soon be “evacuated”. It would likely make a nice terrorist headquarters, I guess. Recycling...reuse. Clown Prince nobama is pleased.
Well now the new caliphate will be enjoying our $2 billion embassy extravaganza.
This is what happens when you go into a region and totally upset the balance of power. Now we will get to see the results.
I wonder if McCain is still wanting to arm these guys up as they appear to be the same ones he loves so much in Syria.
