If they say it wasn't the amnesty that doomed Cantor, it WAS the amnesty that doomed Cantor.

It’s all in how you ask the question. Everybody (almost) is in favor of securing the borders. But they haven’t secured them and Democrats never will. Those are all future Democratic voters.

The poll is a farce. Obama will just ignore any security or enforcement provisions and order ICE to rubber stamp all amnesty applications.

I notice the first two leading questions in the poll actually said (1)secure the borders, and (2)block employers from hiring those here illegally, not give some empty promise to secure the borders and block employers from hiring those here illegally.

RE :”About 72 percent of registered voters in Cantor’s district polled on Tuesday said they either “strongly” or “somewhat” support immigration reform that would secure the borders, block employers from hiring those here illegally, and allow undocumented residents without criminal backgrounds to gain legal status – three key tenets of an overhaul, according to a poll by the left-leaning firm Public Policy Polling and commissioned by the liberal advocacy group Americans United for Change.”

This was a GOP primary.

“Cantor didn’t lose because of immigration,” pollster Tom Jensen wrote in the memo obtained in advance by POLITICO. “He lost because of the deep unpopularity of both himself personally and of the Republican House leadership..."

That my friends should be the wikipedia entry for "Begging The Question".

Watching this race, and it looked tight (although I fully expected Cantor to hang on), the desperation from Cantor’s campaign in the final weeks on this very issue tells us everything you need to know. He was trying some double talk with the flyers and ads showing him solid on the issue to dupe voters...while still talking about amnesty for children and other BS.

This was a major issue in the campaign...and part of the larger issue that he had sold out to lobbyist and consultants and was treating HIS district like crap.

BS poll. You ask if they support border security and banning illegals from working and they agree. But that isn’t gong to happen. Just ask if they support legalizing them, letting them stay and letting them work.

Polls can be WRONG, really really wrong .... that is one lesson that for sure can be learned from Cantor’s defeat.

If you look at the actual three points used to support the headline, they actually don’t even relate. From the article:

“About 72 percent of registered voters in Cantor’s district polled on Tuesday said they either “strongly” or “somewhat” support immigration reform that would secure the borders, block employers from hiring those here illegally, and allow undocumented residents without criminal backgrounds to gain legal status – three key tenets of an overhaul...”

Let’s bullet point them. According to those three points, the “reform” people were responding to in the poll would:
1. Secure the borders.
2. Block employers from hiring those here illegally.
3. Allow undocumented residents without criminal backgrounds to gain legal status.

Most Tea Partiers agree with points one and two, and depending on the wording of point three, we agree with that too. For example, if I was asked if illegal immigrants should be able to pursue citizenship I’d say, “sure. Any non-criminal non-citizen should have the right to pursue citizenship.

And we know how the questions can be worded in ways to get people to answer a question other than the one actually being asked. ;-)

But the bottom line is those three questions really don’t relate to “amnesty”.

Democrats are making the case that it was Cantor himself

And, of course, we should all believe whatever the Dims are peddling.
