A Senior Republican leadership aide described the mood as "chaos for the leadership ranks."
"We're absolutely stunned. Honestly, we really can't believe it," said the aide, who likened it to the 2004 election defeat of Tom Daschle of South Dakota, who was Senate minority leader at the time.
"Given the speculation Boehner himself may decide not to run again for speaker, the idea had been out there that Cantor would simply walk into the speakership," said the aide. "But now, who the hell would be the next speaker?"particularly, the aide added.

Republican voters see illegal immigration as an existential threat to the nation. Democrat voters do, too. But they don’t give a damn, because it is to their short term political advantage.
The Democrats are in danger of becoming The Immigration Party, and trading a handful of legal Hispanic votes for the rest of their coalition.
Boehner’s comment puts the problem with his leadership into perfect focus.
He fundamentally sees his job as making ‘touch choices that come with governing ‘ , which in his book means accommodating Obama and the Democrats which is indeed a “hard choice” .
Unfortunately, such accommodation is also a very bad choice.
Boehner has a fundamental inability to distinguish between “hard choices” and “bad choices” and he consistently confuses his bad choices with hard choices simply because they are extremely hard to justify and even harder to sell to the American people.
This is why he needs to go
Is it just me or does this sound like the I cant believe Romney lost talk in 1012?
Clearly the GOPe is full of clueless consultants pulling in big bucks.
The GOP is full of consultants who ringers for the Democrats who are seducing candidates with the sirens call of adopting left wing ideology to “broaden their voter appeal so they don’t have to trade with those embarrassing Neanderthals in the Republican base’
Karl:
Can you hear us now?
If the sun rose green, your prescription would be protectionism.
America is being out-produced by a massive protectionist nation: China.
So you bet.
100%. No argument from me.
I would withhold food and water till they get all that done...
Imagine the attrition rate!!!
Excellent point...Very astute!!! (I nominate this for “post of the day” award!!!)
Something to remind your congress-occupiers of next time you see them...
Kinda reminds us of the old “elections have consequences” quote...
Good job Bookman!!!
I thought I heard on the news last night that a media poll taken last week had Cantor as much ahead of Bray as Bray won by.
Did anyone else hear that? Did I misunderstand or mishear?
I'll bet there's plenty of chaos in the American Chamber of Commerce leadership today, also.
Greedy, anti-American sellouts.

There are some folks in Ohio that believe the sun rises and sets because of him...
Obviously that is a hill some people need to hump first...Who in that district could possibly run against him???
Its too late now I believe this election cycle...But...
The speakership is definitely in play...
I agree with another participant here in that I saw Gowdy being put out there...
I would say that there are a number of better people like him that would be excellent choices for this leadership position...
Be aware, the GOPe, and the establishment will fight this effort tooth and nail...At ALL levels, from the floor of congress, to the local political boundaries of your precincts, parishes, townships...
And it will be handled by people just like us!!!
I did not hear anything about that because Cantor is not part of the political (delegates) mover and shakers I follow and associate with here in my state...
I did see that Brat, won by 12 points over Cantor...
Whomever was polling (gerrymandering) the numbers that said otherwise were obviously covering, and trying to manipulate any last minute voters with falsehoods, lies, and downright deceit...
It is clear who is on the side of the conservative principles of this country, and who is not...
And we still have a lot of cleanup to go...There are lots of Cantor’s out there, and we need to be unafraid and more important, unapologetic about the goals we have to clean house...
Block all money transfers to Mexico, or other any Country South of our Southern Border.
Nah.
TAX @ 16% all money transfers to Mexico, or other any Country South of our Southern Border. (When (if) a valid tax 1040 is filed with receipts on a valid SS number, THEN allow a credit for the 16%.)
“The best way to stop illegal immigration is to teach the poor countries how to run a successful economy.”
Actually Brat teaches a course discussing exactly that. It centers around 3rd world economics policies......He has stated in several interviews that the key elements are fair application of laws, respect for private property and individual freedom. He then points out how we are destroying each of these items and well on our way to becoming a 3rd world economy....
You are wrong.
NAFTA has little to nothing to do with immigration, other than the fact that a strong economy south of the border would REDUCE illegal immigration.
