On Tuesday night, one of the most stunning upsets in Congressional primary history took place, with House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) losing his primary to economics professor Dave Brat. Brat campaigned on the platform that Cantor was a backer of amnesty legislation; heavy conservative media coverage of the thousands of illegal immigrant youths pouring across our inundated southern border contributed to a sense of urgency. So Cantor is out.
And the landscape has radically shifted, both for the Republican Party, and for the 2014 election. Here are the biggest ramifications of Cantors defeat.
Boehner Is Likely Done. The writing has been on the wall for Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) ever since a failed House insurgency in the aftermath of a coup attempt against his speakership in January 2013. Boehner had been under fire ever since his sequestration deal with President Obama in 2011; his fiscal cliff deal with President Obama at the end of 2012 only drove further pressure. Boehners repeated attempts to covertly push amnesty legislation have lost him his base. And the departure of many of his top allies in Congress leaves him vulnerable this year. Cantors ties to Boehner may signal that a successful insurgency is on the way. Aides are telling the National Journal, Were absolutely stunned. Honestly, we really cant believe it.
The Young Guns Are Firing Blanks. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Cantor were considered the so-called young guns in the House, preparing to take over leadership from Boehner and company whenever he stepped down. Ryan and Cantor have been vocal about their desire for immigration reform legislation this year. Cantor is now gone. And Ryans position as a leader is in serious jeopardy.

Elections have consequences.
A whole bunch more RINOs to go and we’ll be set.
Don’t catch Potomac Fever. Stay true to the Conservative cause.
I hope he’s right about everything.
What sticks in my mind is nominee Brat’s comments I heard on TV today. He said (paraphrasing) that Tea party goals and GOPe goals are not far apart. Both are for free market capitalism, which is actually more humane than socialism.
It wasn’t just amnesty. It was spending, the unwillingness to stand for Republican principles, Obamacare, and a host of issues on which Eric Cantor has gone over to the dark side. Immigration is in the news and it was likely the tipping point, but it was just one of a host of reasons why Cantor was ousted.
What needs to happen is the GOP needs to be for American free market capitalism.
American.
That is the word, which is not emphasised nearly enough.
I still say that 95 percent of elected Republicans in Congress either repudiate conservatism or fake it.
Some new fake conservative in the Ryan-McCarthy mold will emerge as Speaker of the House if there is going to be a change.
BOEHNER AND A SMALL GROUP OF GOP HOUSE MEMBERS WILL LIKELY GO WITH THE DEMS TO RAM THROUGH ‘IMMIGRATION REFORM’ AFTER THE NOVEMBER ELECTIONS, THEN BOEHNER WILL MOVE ON AND A NEW FACE WILL BE SPEAKER.
I hope this gets momentum for Joe Carr in TN. Our primary isn’t until August. And McDaniel in MS. When is Gramnesty up?
Gramnesty won his primary tonight. Six more years of that idiot.
The GOP-E Leadership in the US House, (Boehner, Cantor, and Ryan), is always gullible to Obamas tricks.
Consequently, Boehner, Cantor and Ryan, have all pledged to ram through this unpopular Obama Amnesty Bill due to Obamas illegal decision to flood the USA with children from Mexico and Central America.
It is time to kick the GOP-E out of Congressional Leadership!
Newws media don’t tell me you’re ‘stunned’. I’ve been stunned with all the news about immigrant children crossing the border, EPA shutting down more industries when we’re hurting for jobs, gas prices going up to $4.00 a gallion, the Dems allowing Veterans to die but they want to buy the votes of young people by forgiving their student loans, etc. etc. Stunned voters do stunning things - hip hip hooray.
Raúl Labrador (ID-1) has made some vague indication he may try for the speakership, with some Tea Party congressmen favoring him. Would be a million times better than Boehner, and best of all, McConnell would HATE it!
Good Grief.
From what I’ve heard him say, it sounds like he is making the point many have made. The only difference between the Tea Party and the GOP is that the Tea Party actually follows the stated Republican Party platform. The GOP doesn’t.

Gayham won unfortunately, though by a pathetic margin. He got 58.5%. Worse than Cornyn and McConnell.
But the momentum is there now. We can oust Lamar! if we activate the grassroots voters in TN.
What stuck out to me in what Brat said tonight on FNC is that every position that he took in his campaign is the Republican platform position.
The leadership power structure in the House is effectively broken tonight.
