The Top 8 Consequences of Cantor's Defeat
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | June 10, 2014 | Ben Shapiro

Posted on 06/10/2014 8:46:43 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

On Tuesday night, one of the most stunning upsets in Congressional primary history took place, with House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) losing his primary to economics professor Dave Brat. Brat campaigned on the platform that Cantor was a backer of amnesty legislation; heavy conservative media coverage of the thousands of illegal immigrant youths pouring across our inundated southern border contributed to a sense of urgency. So Cantor is out.

And the landscape has radically shifted, both for the Republican Party, and for the 2014 election. Here are the biggest ramifications of Cantor’s defeat.

Boehner Is Likely Done. The writing has been on the wall for Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) ever since a failed House insurgency in the aftermath of a coup attempt against his speakership in January 2013. Boehner had been under fire ever since his sequestration deal with President Obama in 2011; his “fiscal cliff” deal with President Obama at the end of 2012 only drove further pressure. Boehner’s repeated attempts to covertly push amnesty legislation have lost him his base. And the departure of many of his top allies in Congress leaves him vulnerable this year. Cantor’s ties to Boehner may signal that a successful insurgency is on the way. Aides are telling the National Journal, “We’re absolutely stunned. Honestly, we really can’t believe it.”

The “Young Guns” Are Firing Blanks. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Cantor were considered the so-called “young guns” in the House, preparing to take over leadership from Boehner and company whenever he stepped down. Ryan and Cantor have been vocal about their desire for immigration reform legislation this year. Cantor is now gone. And Ryan’s position as a leader is in serious jeopardy.

The Death of the Tea Party Was Greatly Exaggerated....

Yes, I’m aware of his statements on this. A blemish in total (though I agree that the main issue is the swap itself rather than the idiocy of Bergdahl), but still he’s way better than Boehner and anyone else in the leadership circle.

I’d say Steve King should go for it, but I don’t think the support is there from the middle of the caucus.

And while no one wants to hear it tonight, six more years for one of 100 is more significant than 2 years for 1 in 435. But the important thing is the principles which we are fighting for, and tonight’s defeat of Cantor (the man) is insignificant compared with defeating the push fo immigration “reform” (the principle).

Tom DeLay’s conviction was overturned today.

Well, to primary an incumbant in one congressional district is one thing; to primary an incumbent senator in a state-wide election is a lot more difficult.

I don’t often agree with Impy, but I think he’s right about DeLay. He would struggle to get traction as a potential speaker, as much as Newt would. As interesting as the idea of a non-elected speaker is (Allen West has also been mentioned), it does seem to be a pipe dream. We have to get someone from the conservative wing of the caucus to make a run at it. Otherwise, I fear McMorris Rodgers may try to take it. Ugh!

More important than the significance of the seat, is the message that was sent. Defeating a House Majority Leader is seismic! (I’ve heard tonight that this is the very first time it’s been done.) Tomorrow will be a busy day at the Capitol Hill laundry.

except as Viennacon points out, GOPe do not follow their own platform. Hopefully this Cantor loss is wake up call for GOPe.

This result also weakens Jeb Bush’s chances in 2016. Which is just fine with me.

The GOP-E has had control of the Nation’s purse strings for over 4 years. Boehner has been in control as Speaker of the House for over 4 years. Obama has thus been at the mercy of Boehner and the GOP-E for over 4 years. Obama thus could not have been as successful as he has been without the full cooperation of the GOP-E and ESPECIALLY Speaker Boehner, Leader Cantor, Whip McCarthy, Economist Ryan, Chairman Mike Rogers, Chairman Issa and loose cannon Peter King of NY. As long as the Member Republicans in the US House choose to keep in place the above Leadership team, Obama will be able to continue his personal race to the bottom. Obama, Reid, Holder and Pelosi are just doing what they have been raised up to do: Destroy America, ASAP. They are Public Enemy Number One. Those who refuse to oppose the destruction of our Republic are Public Enemy Number Two. BTW, when have “ - - conservatives - - - ,” Boehner, Cantor, or Ryan EVER “Conserved” anything when doing battle with Obama, Reid, Holder or Pelosi? Hmmmmmmmmm? ____________________ The only thing that matters in politics is to stay on offense. The GOP-E has perfected the art of always staying on defense. Thus, the GOP-E will continue to lose elections by wide margins. R Sc Rep. Trey Gowdy is an exception to the shunning of Offense by the GOP-E. Gowdy has the required fire-in-the-belly to attack, Attack, ATTACK! I stand with Gowdy, Lee and Cruz, who so far have told the truth, and then refused to apologize for telling the TRUTH. The Republican Party has come a long ways since 2012. In 2012, then GOP-E candidate Romneycare Romney published a book entitled “No Apologies.” Also in 2012 Romneycare Romney told the truth about the 47 % who pay no personal FI Taxes, and thus would not vote for him. Two weeks later, Romney apologized, saying “I was completely wrong.” The GOP-E lost the support of Conservatives when GHW Bush lied to us about “Read my lips, NO NEW TAXES!” The GOP-E lost the support of the “Hold-your-nose-when-you-vote” segment in 2008 by voting for McCain. The GOP-E revealed itself to be a dedicated loser when they chose to run Romneycare Romney against Obamacare Obama. Now we have “Scandal Coverup Artist” Sobber Boehner caving in to Obama, Reid, Holder and Pelosi on a weekly basis. We need to march into the US House of Representatives and “escort” out the above mentioned “Leaders” for a TEA Party “reception” on the Lawn of the US House. I have the tar, y’all bring the feathers!

“We should concentrate on the exchange, whether that exchange should have been done or not, and … leave the Bergdahl family alone"

The key point is the facts of the ill advised exchange, then investigate Bergdahl - Talibanny Daddy is a nutball we have a right to be a nutball in the US. But Bergdahl's actions deserve all the scrutiny, and one way or another they will get it. I can go along with leaving the family alone as long as they DEAL WITH the deserter himself.

One thing I want to comment on:

Why would Obama even consider performing an open act such as issuing an executive order on immigration?

The guy is a weasel.

All he needs to do is continue to work the back channels to support the current policy of de facto amnesty.

The Viva La Raza crowd is getting more than its fair share of TV coverage making the claim that Obama has deported more illegals than any other president.

So Obama's getting the cover he needs to continue to allow the waves of illegals to wash upon our shores. No need to make this public and rile up the Democrats trying to prop up a majority in the Senate.
