RICHMOND, Va. Dave Brat, a local economics professor, toppled House Majority Leader Eric Cantor on Tuesday night in the most shocking primary defeat since Republicans took the House in 2010.
The conservative challengers victory halts one of the most meteoric rises in national politics, and illustrates the strong anti-incumbent fever that has taken over Cantors Richmond-area district. Cantor is the second House incumbent to lose this primary season Texas GOP incumbent Ralph Hall was defeated by a tea-party backed challenger at the end of May.
Cantors defeat not only reorders Virginia politics, where Cantor was the highest-ranking Republican, but it completely throws the House Republican leadership into flux. Cantor, 51, was long seen as the next speaker of the House after John Boehner retires.

Perfect graphic for this thread.
Rise of the Phoenix. A great night for the Tea Party!!
Dave Brat, a local economics professor, toppled House Majority Leader Eric Cantor—— May I say with heartfelt joy-——THANK YOU LORD !!!!
I don’t know why so many people think that Fox News is conservative. There is a far-left station (MSNBC), a leftist station (CNN) and a center-left station (Fox News) but there is no right or center-right news outlet on cable television. No one that employs Juan Williams, Geraldo Rivera, Bob Beckell, Susan Estrich, Kirsten Powers, Malia Lazu and so on are in any way conservatives.
And it is starting to look as if Tea Party Republican Bruce Poliquin is beating GOP insider/former Olympia Snowe aid Kevin Raye.
People should call up Karl Rove’s office and congratulate him.
Actually Brett Baier of Fox is quite conservative. Carl Cameron is not. So listen to Brett over Carl. Meanwhile, I’m going to celebrate with some good chicken wings for dinner. An All American fare. Oh, this is just so sweet, so delightful!
I can’t believe the idiot Cantor was still pushing amnesty for kids when we are being overrun with illegal kids this very moment on our southern border. What a dunderhead. Well, it did him in. Hahahahahahah. Jan Brewer in Arizona should take those kids being bussed in and immediately transfer them when they get off one bus to another bus going to Washington DC and drop them off at the steps of the Capitol Building and in front of the White House.
Theres more to come. This isnt merely a Virginia phenomenon. Im still convinced that the 2014 elections are going to be a watershed event for conservatism. We wont win em all, but we will be a driving force that cannot be denied going forward.
BINGO!!
ruh ..... roh ......
We will lose some. Thats reality I agree. But this is do or die. There is little left to save.
Re-elect no one!
Better chance of taking the seat in November?
Cochran will also suffer from this.
McDaniel just locked it up.
By golly there is such a thing as karma,
Hey Eric, hope it hurts ya butt hole
I hope this means (among other things) that the $2Billion that Obama is requesting to resettle illegal “kids” IS DEAD!!! ANY money should go ONLY to transporting the “kids” and other illegals back to their countries of origin!!
FINALLY!!! A win!
Immigration is a new third rail.
I REALLy disliked this smug, GOPe punk.
Gayham now dropping slightly, but its annoying since Politico doesn’t have %reporting numbers
We still have folks suggesting this opens the door for Paul Ryan as Speaker.....
I will call in a moment to clue them in that AMNESTY is what cost Cantor, and it is WHY Ryan won’t be Speaker!
