Militants Overrun Iraq's Second-Largest City As Government Forces Flee
WSJ ^ | 6/10/2014 | Ali A. Nabhan and Matt Bradley

Al Qaeda-inspired militants seized control of Iraq's second-largest city on Tuesday in a brazen military operation that underscored the weakness of the Baghdad government across vast swaths of the country.

Hours after government forces fled Mosul in disarray following four days of fighting, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki declared a nationwide "state of maximum preparedness" but didn't indicate whether government forces were mobilizing to retake the Iraqi city, 220 miles north of the capital Baghdad.

The capture of Mosul by rebels linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, or ISIS, is the latest evidence of the weakness and disorganization that have beset Iraq's security forces since the U.S. forces withdrew from the country in December 2011.

It also underlines the group's determination to establish an Islamic emirate encompassing the Iraqi-Syrian frontier, weaken the already fragile Iraqi state and expand the theater of the three-year-old civil war in neighboring Syria.

Residents of Mosul said they were shocked at the ease of the rebel takeover of government buildings, television stations and military installations where U.S.-supplied fighter airplanes, helicopters and other heavy weaponry are based.

Didn’t Saddam Hussein say, “Without me, Iraq is nothing”?

Way to go, Zero.

This can be laid at Barky’s feet.

Consider this:

These very same people are our “allies” in Syria. Barry attempted, and failed to deliver a radical Sunnis state in Egypt when the generals staged a coup d'etat against the Muslim Brotherhood. And he looks to be failing in Syria, as Assad, Iran and Hezbollah seem to have the upper hand.

But in Iraq, Barry is winning. Maybe that “failure” to get a status of forces agreement in 2011 was deliberate.

And he looks poised to deliver Afghanistan back to the Taliban. He's also a big supporter of the Hamas "reconciliation" government in Palestine.

So, in other words, Barry is determined to restore a kind of status quo ante bellum as regards the Bush Administration wars after 9/11. Only worse, because the al-Qaida-Hamas-Taliban radicals will be firmly in charge and without US-led opposition.

Coincidence? I think not.

Just another piece of the 0bama Doctrine:

Assist radical Islam even when, as in the Bergdahl deal, it damages you politically.

Because global jihad is so worth it.

So the people the Democrats have been arming in Syria are now attacking the government we fought to set up in Iraq?

Everything the Democrats touch turns to crap.

And I forgot to mention Libya, where Barry helped overthrow the anti-Islamist Qaddafi, and now Libya is a Sunni radical playground on the Mediterranean, liberally stockpiled with weapons.

What if Barry didn’t interfere in Benghazi because Barry wanted that compound overrun? So those weapons could go to the Sunni fanatics there?

Take a look at Mosul on a map. It’s very close to the Syrian border, maybe 80 miles or so.

The Obama doctrine.

Do everything possible to allow radical islam to ascend wherever possible. No matter the cost.

You can apply it to almost every foreign policy decision he has made in the Mid East and the War on Terror.

His wanton withdrawal from Iraq. His ingoring of the freedom fighters in Iran. His dealings with the Iranian nuclear development. Leading from behind in Lybia. The Arab Spring in Egypt and the Muslim Bortherhood. The Benghazi debacle. The Syrian conflict. His actions in Afganistan regarding our hasty and complete withdrawal there. His wretched trade with the Taliban.

...and on and on and on.

"By midday on Tuesday, militants belonging to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, one of the strongest extremist groups, were in control of much of central and southern Mosul, according to witnesses. Local officials claimed that many of the fighters were jihadists who had swept in from the porous border with Syria, who have increasingly operated with impunity in that region even as President Bashar al-Assad has reclaimed ground lost to the insurgents elsewhere in Syria."

And the shrieking over the Bergdahl deal drowned out all the kissy noises that Barry has been making with Hamas.

Bush's fault. Both of them. Should have stayed out of Iraq. Let Saddam have Kuwait. Hell let him have Saudi Arabia. We could have gotten an early start on fracking, got rich, and watch the middle-east devour itself.

Bush's fault.

Something like this would’ve never happened if Saddam had been in charge.

Normalcy in Muslim countries can only be established by tyrants.

How long does anyone think it will take for the Taliban to regain all of Afghanistan after US Forces leave?

Is that you Nancy Pelosi? You as a new world order internationalist know nothing. The way to fight a war is to sink the enemies navy, flatten their air power, and crush their armor. Then drop small arms to the oppressed within. Then leave.

Apparently, you take the new world order internationalist view where you rebuild the enemy's country, tie the hands of the troops on the ground, and let them get picked off by insurgents. Then when they come home, you deny them VA medical care.

Go screw yourself with the Polosi comment.
