But isn’t it unfair to the other team if you hit a triple and weren’t playing in the first game of a double header?

Not that I care of course!

Well that all depends. If you hit a triple in the first game of the double header, and made a triple play in the second game of the double header, it could be perceived as being unfair to the other team by the end of the bottom of the 3rd inning of the second game of the double header.

But as you know, I don’t care.

No. No horse can win the Triple Crown if he only enters one race. But you are allowed to enter individual races.

Think of it as 3 separate and distinct races, each with their own history, not as steps to a “Triple Crown”.

What?! You want me to find examples of horse owners who express dismay and blame various causes or people for their horses’ loss?! How petty. How many horse owners have come within meters of a triple crown with their prized beast? One of them has sour grapes and you think this is beyond human example or emotion? How ignorant. Maybe there is a snobbiness that attends to horse racing the rest of the world does not care to indulge.

Agree.
Coburn made a stupid, but forgivable, comment. End of story.

There was an accident at the gate. CC was stepped on by Matterhorn and injured. He did well to run as well as he did.

The owner mouthed off before he knew what happened.

Man O’ War’s owner did not enter one of the very greatest race horses of all time in the Kentucky Derby, as he didn’t want to have to bring the horse to KY and thought the horse was too young for that race.

Should he have been prevented from entering the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes, which he won easily?

How is that a ‘triple’ crown competition?

The "triple crown" is a made up competition. There were and are the three big races excluding the west. They run in five weeks. Someone described the feat of winning them all as a "triple crown" and it caught on with writers and the public.

It's really three races and there is no sense, fairness, rules or logic to the "triple crown" because it is not a race, It is something to sell newspapers.

It is self evident only one horse can win the Triple Crown!
You have to have a field of horses to make it a race!
So what do you do, make the Preakness a timed event for the horse that won the previous two. If 2 3 min horse races in 2 months tire your horse to where it’s a disadvantage you might need to get another horse. I much rather have seen the
Winner circle Festivities than some blubbering fool spout idiocy on National TV! Bob Costas is a fool for egging the guy on!

Interesting about Seabiscuit as a sire. Maybe you can’t pass on your “heart” like you do your other DNA.

Did you read the book? I thought it was gripping/interesting/emotional. She is such an extraordinary writer.

I think the stud fees will still probably be excellent since the horse won both the Derby and the Preakness.

Interesting about Seabiscuit as a sire.

He was a grandson of Man O'War, whose male line nearly died out until In Reality (1964) whose progeny revived it somewhat. That line is represented today mostly by Tiznow.

Man O'War commonly appears in contemporary pedigrees, but almost exclusively through In Reality or through daughters of his son War Admiral. Other lines did not last very long, so Seabiscuit was not such an anomaly:

http://www.pedigreequery.com/index.php?query_type=progeny&search_bar=progeny&h=SEABISCUIT&sort=Year&done=y&filter=All%20Horses&cf=

The book was very well done.

It's not snobbiness. It's good sportsmanship and class. Trashing one's opposition is generally in poor taste in any sport; proving one's team or horse is better is BEST done by winning, which speaks for itself. Trash talk is for trashy people.

Winning the Kentucky Derby is by no means a guarantee to demand as a sire--look into the stud careers of Lil E Tee and Giacomo.

One horse who did win the Kentucky Derby and Preakness was Sunday Silence, who was sold to Japanese interests after there was little interest in breeding to him in this country. Charismatic and War Emblem were sold to Japan with the same records.
