The standard for anti-personnel bullets since time immemorial has always been the hollow point. It mushrooms out on impact, giving the bullet a much larger profile and stopping it inside the target. Unlike the full-metal jacket, which is designed to wound, it will more than likely not pass through what youre aiming at.
However, since we started using weapons, humans have never stuck with the If it aint broke, dont fix it philosophy and the bullet is not exempt. This newest anti-personnel round not only replaces the hollow point bullet, it also makes it look like a sissy.
Meet the RIP round from G2 Research. Not only does this bullet look scary, it does scary things. It was intended to be used for gun-toting women against would-be attackers, and its guaranteed to kill anyone dumb enough to assault anyone who has this in the chamber.
G2 calls it the last round you will ever need and describes its effects as radically invasive. As youll see in the video, the bullet doesnt just stay in one piece upon entering its target. The round uses its forward momentum to send the edges of the bullet ripping apart into your attacker. This not only puts a round into the target, it also sends shrapnel into various parts of the body as well, effectively destroying vital organs.

Black Talons were still lead. Copper is a harder metal. Talons mostly kept intact. These are designed to essentially explode on contact sending shrapnel throughout the torso.
I’ve seen similar brass bullets. Very destructive on gelatin.
Do the treaties on dum dum bullets apply to civilian use against thugs on the street? If I can load something besides FMJ in a 9mm that will drop a baddie without causing jamming issues, then it is worth a look.
This RIP bullet looks like it would make a REALLY interesting 12ga slug load though.
For internal use only.
Only outlawed for use by the military. Civilian enforcement officers are under no such prohibitions.
Will it make it through a hoody and a t shirt?
The BLACK TALON sent the anti-gun world into spastic foam at the mouth fits!
I saw on utube a rather interesting 12 ga slug. 2 slugs connected by piano wire. A lethal bolo. I think I saw a commercial variation with 3 slugs.
so—how’s it do on Kevlar vests?
Shotgun slug? Owwww!
Pretty sure you hit someone with a 500 gr. 50 cal. bullet they will lose all interest in being aggressive.
“Load these in a .358 Winchester or a 35 Whelen. How nasty would the wound channel be with the bullet at 3200fp”
You ought to see the wound channel a standard 158 gr. HP makes when fired out of a 35 Remington at 2400 fps. I’ve seen several deer shot with that combination, very impressive.
Dumb hype for a poorly designed projectile. Just looking at that I can see that it would almost certainly fail to achieve the F.B.I. minimum penetration in ballistic gelatin.
But, hey, most people don’t have the faintest concept of physics or anatomy, so they’ve got a big potential market of dim-bulbs to market that to.
I’ll check some of my gun forums and blogs to see if anyone has ripped this one to shreds yet, could be amusing.
Penetration will not be as good as a hollow point. This looks like much ado about nothing.
I am also suspicious. Looks like a frangible round, something they used to spatter on specially armored aircraft for gunnery practice. But they were fired from belt-fed weapons, not mags. This baby looks like a poor penetrator and worse, a jam'o'matic in a pistol.
What scary name will they conjure up this time?
“96 grains in what caliber?’
At this time, G2 only has a 9mm version but plans to create various other calibers, including the 45 and shotgun slugs.
I once had some .357 reloads that were 125 grain hollow based wad cutters set upside down, 1200 fps. Good for about 20 feet as far as accuracy, but after seeing what one did to a water melon, I had very little doubt what it would do to a man.
How about in a .38 or .357? Or better yet- a .44 mag with a six inch barrel?
A 115 grain 9mm has a muzzle velocity of about 1300 fps. I’m guessing this would have a muzzle velocity of almost 1600 fps.
