Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has declined to speak to his family after five years in harsh captivity that included being held in a cage after one attempted escape, according to a U.S. official familiar with the Army soldier's recovery.
Doctors treating Sgt. Bergdahl at a U.S. military hospital in Germany are moving slowly because of the swirling controversy over the soldier's release, the U.S. official said.
While he spent five years in captivity after being captured by Afghan insurgents in 2009, Sgt. Bergdahl doesn't yet want to talk to his family on the phone, the official said. Details of Sgt. Bergdahl's captivity were earlier reported over the weekend by the New York Times. NYT -0.13%
Sgt. Bergdahl has likely been shielded from most of the backlash his release has generated in the U.S. Some former platoon soldiers have accused him of deserting his post, and lawmakers from both parties have questioned the decision to trade America's lone prisoner of war in Afghanistan for five Taliban officials held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

No one really knows if he was in a cage.

he has never claimed to have been tortured or in a cage until he so called “tried to escape”
what was he doing that he calls “tried to escape”
and as for being in danger of being killed...
in FIVE YEARS if they were going to kill him they would have done it years ago...
“I have yet to hear ONE who has not accused him”
Sadly, there are several. Not their fault, you’d need an Ouija board to ask them. Also, not one single officer has come forward as yet. That PO’s me, big time.
Yep. No keedean.
people come to this country all the time and after 20 or 30 years never forget their native tongue.
It’s like riding a bike. You never forget....
These guys are really pathetic...
Here's something that tipped me off to the parents...
The military arrived at the house. Only the mother was home. They wanted to tell both parents at the same time.
They called the father who worked for UPS. He showed up in his UPS truck.
They told both parents that their son had been captured by the Taliban.
The father got back in the truck and worked for two more hours to finish his route.
In other words....the parents knew what the kid was doing and where he was and with whom. Captive my a**.
I was just looking for those.
LOL
Do we all have to go for anger management therapy?
maybe he realizes his folks are a couple of loony tunes
What are you talking about?
Our government is/are his new parents.
They met him and will raise him right....
Is that what they will call the camps?
Officers are likely still in the military. They cannot say a thing.
Maybe they told him to refuse....so they don’t get their stories mixed up.
Insanity plea/I was tortured/I need a sex change/chelsea manning type defense?
What kind of treatment, rehab, assessments or evolution.
So far most anything any official has to say about the whole fiasco has been a lie. I am calling BS on this
It’s possible that his government handlers are coaching him, trying to make a case that he is mentally unstable, so he can get out of any UCMJ charges of desertion, treason, collaborating, etc.
/I was tortured

Torture in Gitmo is not getting the food or reading material that they demand in a timely fashion ...like yesterday..
:)
Point taken. Still annoying, but yeah. Guess you are right.
I have yet to unearth any mention of any other American Serviceman being held hostage by jihadis. Many as we know have been killed by the talibam apparently none....held hostage
The buildup of a psychological profile/case!
You can’t prosecute a “nut case,” the point is that we need another whistle blower from Germany to talk about the coaching involved in this deception.
Next we will hear that Birdbrain wants to live on a tree, howls at the moon and tries to lick it!
Totally unadulterated BS!
Didn’t the Vietnam pows spend just one day in Hawaii...and meet tbeir families the very next day?
I’m not buying this.
My guess is he’s upset at mom and dad for dragging him home.
