A group of World War II veterans got a sweet surprise on Wednesday, when a gate agent at the Detroit airport serenaded them with a beautiful rendition of the national anthem over the loudspeaker.
The moving moment came on Monday, when the agent at DTW, Anna Marie Barile, started to sing over the PA system for passengers waiting for Delta flight 98 from Detroit to Paris.
There were 12 WWII veterans on this particular flight, which was headed to Omaha Beach to recognize the 70th anniversary of D-Day. When it was announced over the PA system that they were WWII veterans, they received a standing ovation from all the travelers.

This is very heartwarming.
And, considering that this is the 70th anniversary, this could be the last trip for many of these vets. The greatest generation have seen most of their numbers pass on, due to the passage of time. Glad to see us honor those remaining vets.
I appreciated the gesture, but like so many others who sing the anthem, she pronounced rockets as rockits, and perilous a perulus.
God Bless them all.
Oh for the sake of heaven, you’re complaining because you don’t agree on the precise pronunciation of two words? Seriously? You astonish me.
You're kidding right?
An individual sings her heart out for some WWII vets, and the best YOU can say, in a text, on a huge internet forum that is seen by tens of thousands of patriotic, conservative individuals who love their country and support their WWII vets, is she pronounced some words improperly?
Really??
Really?
Have a great day....
Exactly what I thought. A beautiful unexpected touching tribute. but he doesn’t like how 2 words were pronounced. lol. Wake up.
‘I appreciated the gesture, but like so many others who sing the anthem, she pronounced rockets as rockits, and perilous a perulus.’
Bi+ch, bi+ch, bi+ch.
She actually said perolous.
you seem like the sort of person who when given a gift would complain about the wrapping paper used.
Haven’t listened to this version - and you’re probably right - but singers often must slightly “mispronounce” words simply to make it easier to hit the note correctly. And it depends on the kind of singing. The late great Joan Sutherland didn’t even attempt to make her words clear - it was all about the perfect sound.
We lucky few...we band of brothers
Don’t make it about a flippant comment on this thread!
That was a top-notch, heartfelt, patriotic singing salute to our heroes.
God Bless America and Lord, please deliver us from evil.
I think one of the vets had a button undone, too. Pretty much ruined the whole thing for me. < /sarc>
Wonderful
Is she going to get audited?
In thinking about it, if he sang “rockITs” that’s a very, very closed, tight sound. Most teachers would correct that.
Currahee!
That is so sweet!
Back in 2009 when I was coming home from Air Force Basic and Tech School I was layed over in Memphis on a Delta flight and Ticket Man Called me up to the counter and told me I would be flying First Class Home!
It was a great experience too! Especially after 5 Months of Air Force Stuff.
Also earlier when I was making my way through the Memphis terminal Two Ladies, a white lady and a black lady of.....generous size, dressed in All Red and Shade Hats saw me coming let out a happy yell and just gave me the hug of a life time.
I will never forget any of that :)
