More public outreach in Canada urged as European countries sound alarm on Syria recruitment.
An alarming number of radicalized Canadians are joining foreign jihadi groups abroad, prompting calls for intervention as other Western nations boost efforts to stop their citizens from waging attacks at home or on foreign soil.
CBC News has learned of as many as two dozen Calgarians who, in the last two years, departed for Syria to join extremist rebel groups.
France intercepted four people suspected of trying to recruit militants to fight in Syria last week, following the arrest of a French citizen who joined a militant group in Syria and then returned to carry out a deadly shooting at a Jewish museum in Brussels last month.

A major question is who is influencing these young men, and leading them toward becoming suicide bombers such as Salman Ashrafi, who killed at least 46 people in a 2013 Iraq suicide attack.
The attack was carried out on behalf of the extremist group ISIS (the Islamic State of Iraq in Syria), a group so violent it has even been condemned by Al-Qaeda.

Wow. Thats a hard one. Don't tell me, let me guess.
Doesn’t his article run the risk of running afoul of Canadian “hate speech” laws?
Calgarians. Is that what they are calling them these days?
Do they mean enough about investigating radical clerics recruiting at the foreign funded mosques in Canada???
Enough about bringing up youths to be loyal patriots to the homeland (Canada)?
That type of talk went out two generations ago...
Canada obviously has too many young muslims.
Canadians, Texans, Brits, Aussies, what ever happened to the hyphenated stuff, like Somali/Australian, or Arab/Texan?
These people, who are Muslim, accept no national identity - they are Muslim, and that is everything to them.
If nations want to stop them then those nations had better realize there is only one option: bar recognition of Islam as a religion.
I know nothing about Canadian law, but surely there exists some statute on their books regarding joining a foreign military and how that may jeopardize one’s Canadian citizenship. I can’t be the only one thinking this.
Having had to deal with several Canadians recently I’m inclined to let them rot. Nasty punks who think the they are so so much better than the rabble here in the USA. Sorry for the rant. Addressing this issue: Canada is into Western style suicide like we are.
Just a question. How many of them are muslim immigrants frm other countries? My guess is most of them.
Mississauga seems like a part of Pakistan sometimes.
**A major question is who is influencing these young men,...**
No, the major question is WHY are these young men vulnerable to these influences.
Hint: turning your back on God leaves a void that is eventually filled by satan. satan comes to steal and kill and destroy.
“Canadians, Texans, Brits, Aussies, what ever happened to the hyphenated stuff, like Somali/Australian, or Arab/Texan?”
Excellent observation.
It always struck me as odd (but couldn’t quite put my finger as to why) that whenever there’s someone of a foreign extraction involved in a crime or terrorism they always refer to him as an american, canadian, british etc., or simply as “youths”.
However all “victims” of foreign extractions are always hyphenated.
Orwell is smiling in his grave.
Wow. Michael J Fox, Alan Thicke and the McKenzie Brothers are all going Jihadi on us?
I’m far more conservative than the majority of Americans. I wouldn’t lump us all together, just like I don’t lump you all together with Harry Reid or Pelosi, or any other nutjob.
Truth is we’re about split the same way you’re country is. We’re all in this struggle together.
Citizens of Calgary (Alberta) are called Calgarians. Calgary only has a population of 1M or so, so a couple of dozen jihadists from there is a very high number.
And Renfrew County can seem like a snowy version of Oklahoma (West Virginia would probably be more accurate). I don’t think many of the Canadians that we have up here are heading over to fight as described in the article—I wonder why only Canadians from some regions are.
Nothing personal. I’ve always had decent interaction with older Canadians....the younger generation, not so much.
Think about it ... if some guys lived next door, would you at least have a clue about what they might be ?
Same is true for JBT's
