Not to be callous, but why are these shootings always a national story? 1 dead? Half a dozen are shot to death every single weekend in Chicago with ZERO hand-wringing by the media or politicians. This is just a local crime story.
Oh ....
“Notice how these liberal meccas are now becoming the hot killing zones for the whacked out crazed murderous lunatics among them.”
Since this is a Christian university I think the operative word in your post is Mecca.
The odds are pretty good that the shooter was
1. Obama voter
2. Muslim
3. Homosexual
4. All of the above
In the odd chance that isn’t true I bet it is a love triangle of some sort
“When seconds matter, the police are minutes away.”
The kids he hangs out with are pretty conservative in politics and faith. They are “open” though to gays, etc. as not ALL of the kids are Christian. But they have weekly prayer/Bible studies on each of the dorm floors. Some floors are pretty well attended, others not. There was something on twitter about “You go to school at SPU if”. Answers included things like “you play beer pong with root beer!”, you have a t-shirt with the band _____ (some Christian group.)
I’m sure there is plenty of drinking and sex going on though, but maybe not.
One of his friends was seriously hurt in a dumb accident. The kids organized visitations at the hospital (Harbor View where the shooting victims went). It is an hour-plus bus ride.
He said there was always another kid with him (even when he was in a coma). Usually 10-15 kids visited him. No adult/teacher coordination. It was pretty cool to see the connections these kids have. At breaks the guys are hugging each other good bye. They are pretty close.
Seattle is a liberal ‘Mecca’ what is meant by it.
Good to hear, and reports like this give me some hope for the future of the country. Thanks.
No, single shooter.
I thought it odd too to see ALL of the police, ambulances, fire, etc. still hanging around an hour after things had calmed downed. Although I suppose they were still in the process of clearing things, so one never knows.
The campus is on a busy public street with nearby public businesses. It could easily have been a robbery or something gone bad is what I was thinking at first. But later reports said the gunman (I heard once described as “young”) entered a class room and shot four with a shotgun.
“..reports like this give me some hope for the future of the country.”
Me too! But I think they are still vastly outnumbered.
I pick 3.
Glad to hear your son is OK. Do you know what prompted the shooting?
Any feedback on the actual school culture?
My sister in law graduated from there, about 10 years ago, she was a Resident Advisor. She went on to marry a fine man, who is now a Pastor (in another region), my impression, unfortunately, from she, and the other students I met there, was not positive. They seemed to be more interested in being liberal, Christianity was a “mere” byproduct. Her husband, The Pastor, is a good man, he seemed to escape the prevailing wind.
These newspeople should avoid using the word “fact”. Just stick with breaking news, they get so much wrong on these “emergency” stories.
It is good to hear no fatalities so far, I hope that no one was seriously hurt.
Nope this will be flushed down the memory hole. My guess this is yet another deranged leftist and his targets were conservatives, so this won’t even be front page news beyond Washington.
No idea on what the prompting was. I would guess it was a student (going into a class room and then shooting), but that is not known.
Where, of course, the solution is more stringent gun rules and gun free zones.
Another Obama-voter goes berserk
“To the ROTC students that took down the shooter at SPU before more were injured. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. #prayforSPU”
From a spu twitter site. Not sure if the statement is true. But it was in the engineering building. And when I went to another school, some of the engineering classes were ROTC classes. (Think SEABEES).
