I have voted for every park, every library, all the school improvements, for light rail, for anything that will make this city better. But now I cant afford to live here anymore. Ill protest my appraisal notice, but thats not enough. Someone needs to step in and address the big picture.

A liberal gets mugged by reality, and REFUSES to identify the perp.

Idiots. All of them. I vote “NO” on every sales tax increase or extension. I vote “NO” on every bond issue. Funny thing is they always pass.
So public buildings are the nicest buildings around. City and County employees have the newest vehicles and equipment. Construction companies all over the area use and keep running old backhoes, old water trucks, old excavators and loaders. The County and Cities? Brand Spankin new!. Most business work out of older buildings and get by with old furniture. Cities and County? Sparkling with that “new car smell”. New buildings, new furniture, new tech.
But they produce NOTHING. They just take. The idiotocracy keeps voting them new gear, bigger pensions, higher wages. I don’t get it.
Then the same loonies cry about property taxes. Boo Hoo sucker!
I want to see Municipal offices in giant un-air conditioned warehouses with cubicles. I would give each cube one fan and a bottle of water each day. Let the Mayor work off of plastic lawn furniture like Wal-Mart Vice Presidents. Have municipal court in a tent. Police Officers can drive golf carts or for the big spenders let them buy old mail trucks at auction.
Trim them down to deal with the same economic realities that businesses live with.

However, as a Texan, I can assure you there is a bigger problem here. Property owners bear significantly more of the Texas tax burden than the rest of the population. We are, indeed, a low-tax state for most citizens. We do not have a state income tax, and we want to keep it that way.Another trend we are seeing here in Texas, is Appraisal Districts intentionally and artificially elevating prices of properties of areas that they feel can better afford it.
Yes, we are tax averse here in Texas, but wealth redistribution is still alive and well.

are you under the impression that a portion of the rent people pay isn’t used for property taxes? The reason for the shift is businesses are going out of business while the number of residents in the Austin markets has tripled over the last few years...

She'll just go elsewhere and vote for tax increases there too.
There was a reason why, 200 years ago, you had to be a property owner in order to vote. Making the area unlivable would have a direct impact on your net worth.

Just who in hell did she think was going to pay for all that stuff she and every other liberal in Austin voted for? The illegals? The tooth fairy?............Uncle Sugar will be paying for her "votes". You should hear some callers to KLBJ, the conservative talk station in Austin. They have the same mentality as the woman talking about "0 bummer's stash" when it comes to paying for projects. They think money grows on trees.
If you ever have a chance, listen to the live stream at KLBJ. They always have hot topics from 530 AM until Rush comes on at 11 and then again from 2 - 3 PM.

These always get voted in. A big part of that is because our retirement community of Sun City, Texas My in-laws used to live there and moved due to all the liberals. They now live in Lago Vista, about two miles away from us.

See my post #75. And the island of Austin does not accurately represent the rest of Texas.

Yep, we have had a huge influx of California and rust belt liberals move here in the past 8 years. They escape their own self made hell and go immediately into the same mode that caused them to flee here.

We’ve had a few CA and north east liberals move here as well. This used to be 80%+ conservative precinct. We’ve seen a few more demoncrat campaign signs the past few elections.

Sorry, but it is what it is. Most of the people sucked into the environmental movement are women - some guys, too, but heavily weighted towards women. And the absurd "War on Women" meme you mention was made up from whole cloth, yet enough women bit on it to get Obama re-elected. Women are more easily manipulated than men, and the Democrats still know how to push the right buttons. Take away middle-aged white women and what is the Democrat partyt left with? Not enough to win many elections, that's for sure.
