Here is the video description,
MTB ride on Saturday 31st May 2014 from Ongegund, last few kms before end of session. Armed gunman and 2 others stopped myself and took cellphone, car keys, oakleys and bike.
Fortunately they did not have a clue what a GOPRO was and this is the evidence that will assist in their procecution!
While this incident ended up OK for the victim (well, he wasnt shot anyway), this could have gone bad very quickly and he would have had no way to defend himself.

UPDATE: According to one international report, the suspects in the video have already been caught thanks to the video evidence.
Occasionally we have to look at stories which did not result in a defensive gun use to remind ourselves why we carry.
In this case, a mountain biker was robbed at gunpoint by several individuals while out riding his bike on a trail in South Africa (Im pretty sure its SA anyway).

South Africa is a lawless hellhole. A thousand times worse than the worst places in the US.
South Africa. Lucky they didn’t just kill him.
As I said, its an object lesson for all.
If those gentlemen and possible sons o Barrack had chosen to, they could have shot the mountain biker.
There were no police in the area to help this man, and even if he had tried to call them it would have made no difference.
But thats what the gun grabbers want for everyone.
This is odd. Judging from the primary perp’s appearance and Andean style cap, called a ‘Chullo’, I would think this would be South America, not South Africa.
Civilization has lost the fight in South Africa.
there’s a whole lot of ethnic diversity in South Africa.
there’s a whole lot of ethnic diversity in South Africa.
I appreciate the description of the video (cannot watch from work, and far too few people offer a description).
How and where do you carry when riding?
Could you have drawn quick enough in this rider’s situation?
You’d better have answers to both, before pronouncing carrying as your solution.
Thanks - but I can’t take credit for that, it being in the original story.
But Including a video description is a very good idea for just that reason.
That usually begins when the gun grabbers win and disarm the law-abiding.
At least if he had been armed he would have had a fighting chance, he had none without a gun.
What is Your solution to the problem?
Thats by the information at hand.
Didn’t know it was SA....yeah a submachine gun would have been a good choice knowing that ;)
Thanks!
Carry where you KNOW, through practice, that you can get to it from a riding position.
I submit that the waist band is a piss poor position, when slumped over the handle bars of a bike.
Youd better have answers to both, before pronouncing carrying as your solution.
Are you arguing about types of carry or the idea of carrying at all?
Me, myself or I. The guy is grammatically challenged.
An overreaching and oppressive socialist government, Terrorism from the Islamo fascists, Iran building Nuclear weapons, Trillions in debt, Our money being devalued by quantitative easing, the coming crash of the economy, Afghanistan reverting to a terrorist haven, Red China and Russia on the march, Obamacare destroying freedom and bankrupting the country, etc
OR
Nitpicking the Grammar of a news story?
Just checking, are you under the impression that South Africa has strict gun control laws?
