An Obama administration official has floated the idea that Bowe Bergdahl was justified in deserting his platoon in Afghanistan and joining the Taliban over disagreements with the platoon's leadership.
Brandon Friedman, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs for the Department of Housing and Urban Development posted a series of tweets Wednesday evening in which he speculated that Bergdahl deserted over bad leadership of his platoon and that is why his fellow soldiers were smearing him.
"Here's the thing about Bergdahl and the Jump-to-Conclusions mats: What if his platoon was long on psychopaths and short on leadership? (1/5)"
" What if he grew disillusioned with what he saw, didn't trust his leadership, and walked off? Legal? No. Worthy of sympathy? Maybe. (2/5)"
" If that were the case, the soldiers in his platoon would have all the more reason to smear him publicly now. (3/5)"
" Given other examples, it's not out of the realm of possibility--and more reason to withhold judgment until after an investigation. (4/5)"
" I'm not a fan of such speculation, but this story could not be more unbalanced--with so many premature calls of "traitor." (5/5)"
Friedman's Wikipedia page says he is a decorated war veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and is a veteran of the Democratic Party front group VoteVets. He joined the Obama administration in 2009 at the Veterans Administration. He left in 2012 and rejoined the administration in 2014 at HUD.
What if, What if, What if.... June 30 2009 Obama has already been nominated for the nobel peace prize and has announced his draw down plans for the wars, So why wouldn’t Bergdhal write a letter to his new President?
I recall quotes where he expresses Islam to be priority to all else.
Here’s the thing: So what if he had bad leadership or was disciplined, teased or bullied by his superiors or fellow soldiers.
Hundreds of thousands of men served in the theater, and how many of them deserted and joined the enemy?
Outstanding!
The Obama administration defines Americans who disagree with the Obama administration as potential terrorists, and certainly racists. Disagreement with the Obama administration on Afghanistan policy should be no different.
So walking off to a sane country is certainly justified, then. Unfortunately, there are none that I know of.
ya gotta be kidding me... right???
whinny little faggots in Urban Development, is there anything they DON'T KNOW about the Military????
who the hell ask it it's opinion in the first place?
Y’all may have already covered this, but there is one aspect of this that takes me back to the Haditha Marines.
What I’m talking about is Undue Command Influence.
On top of this creepy fool Friedman making excuses for Bergdahl we’ve got the National Security Advisor claiming Bergdahl served with “honor and distinction”. The Senate majority leader has echoed those words. The Commander-in-Chief has nodded his approval.
It’s a situation where if Bergdahl ever stands before a military court the desired verdict will have already been telegraphed by the CIC and his top lieutenants. Declared innocent before any trial.
It’s just the opposite of the detestable John Murtha and his condemnation of the Marines. He declared them guilty before any charges were brought.
But the thing is, in both cases, there is UCI. The military is told what any verdict is expected to be. In both cases, UCI is the enemy of military justice.
You make an excellent point and it couldn't be more true.
In fact it's more detestable than Murtha declaring the Haditha Marines guilty because of the CINC and many high officials under him as well as the initial coverage by the MSM making Bergdahl a hero by having served his country well, in reality a total lie.
UCI can work both ways and sadly 0bama and thugs have planted that seed of innocence already. Fortunately many have spoken out disputing 0bama and even many in the MSM have changed their tune.
Hopefully the well hasn't already been poisoned by 0bama's lies.
Bergdahl ping.
If that justifies what he did, then we should have left him with his new friends in Afghanistan, they were clearly were so much more agreeable.
These people are certifiable.
The decisons we make have consequences. To hear the WH spokespeople, it’s like he never made a decision in the first place to desert.
Now once he has deserted, he does everything to stay alive, or he realizes his mistake.
In other words, I just robbed a bank, and then after spending the money, I give myself up and ask for forgiveness.
The absolute silliness that we continue to put up with every friggin day has aged me at least a couple years.
As Lifson states, Collectively, (the quotes) create quite an interesting picture. I admit that there may be instances of the president speaking as favorably of Christianity as he does of Islam, but I am not aware of them. I do remember in the 2008 campaign that he said he had accepted Jesus Christ as his savior, and that was in response to public awareness of his attendance at Rev. Jeremiah Wrights church, Trinity United. What the president left unsaid is the nature of Jesus as understood in Black Liberation Theology.
Here are the first five about Islam:
#1 The future must not belong to those who slander the Prophet of Islam
#2 The sweetest sound I know is the Muslim call to prayer
future-must-not-belong-to-those-who-slander-prophet-islam-mohammad-barack-hussein-obama-muslim
#3 We will convey our deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over the centuries to shape the world including in my own country.
#4 As a student of history, I also know civilizations debt to Islam.
#5 Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance.
#6 Islam has always been part of America
You can read the full list here.
I am offering no commentary other than this: I dont recall anywhere in my Sunday school studies or Biblical teachings any story of Isra where Moses, Jesus, and Mohammed joined in heaven in prayer. But this is how we can be easily co-opted into believing something if we fail to understand our own faith and actual history. I read all the quotes several times and remember when many of them were spoken.
In my assessment, there is a very clear and evident bias, and when combined with certain actions as in Libya, Egypt, and towards Israel well, you assess for yourself. Be an American Thinker. And then be a Guardian of the Republic.
“long on psychopaths & short on leadership’.......
The most accurate statement yet on the entire Obama administration-—including this AH.
The left is working overtime to muddy the waters on this debacle.
“I think we live in an information age with too much information for people to process. “
It’s called muddying the waters. Look for the left to try it’s damnedest to do this with this debacle.
How’s that??? That makes no logical sense whatsoever, Obama.
“What if he grew disillusioned with what he saw, didn’t trust his leadership, and walked off?”
What if I was on Okinawa during WWII and, after having survived Guadalcanal and Tarawa...I “grew disillusioned with what I saw”...thought that whole “island hopping” “amphibious assault” strategy was “psychotic”. I might have lost “trust in my leadership” and gotten the green light to join up with the Japanese on Mt. Suribachi...WAIT...Benedict Arnold grew disillusioned too didn’t he? NEVER MIND.
