The next time you can be bothered enough to feed a homeless person you might find yourself at odds with the law. Yes, you have to be bothered because you are under no obligation to help your fellow mankind, who has fallen on hard times and on harder concrete slabs.
Thats right, because if you help homeless people in cities like Daytona Beach, Florida; Raleigh, N.C.; Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and Birmingham, Alabama you could be fined, physically removed and/or be threatened with time behind bars and they have actually done it.
In fact, 33 cities across the United States have implemented similar policies, according to the National Coalition for the Homeless.
Recently, there were reports that a couple, Debbie and Chico Jimenez, were fined $2000 by the police just because they were feeding the homeless people in Dayton Beach Park on a weekly basis. The couple and two other colleagues refused to pay the ticket and the police eventually dismissed it, but still, it proves that the city is intent on making criminals out of homeless people and also, because of guilt by association, those that try to help them.
The argument that was posed by the city was that the efforts being done by the couple actually worsened homelessness. They claim that by giving food to the people in the parks, Debbie and Chico are coaxing them away from city-run, centralized programs and when they were handing the food out some of the homeless people mistreated the park and frightened other patrons.
Of course, feeding the homeless shouldnt just be seen as the ultimate solution as it doesnt address the underlying issue. Robert Marbut, a national homeless consultant makes a point when he says, Youre never going to get anywhere arresting, priests, pastors and imams in the street.
But, he also thinks a midway should be found to address the issue.
Give me a name of one person who got a job because they were fed, Marbut said. Feeding alone or giving out clothing or camping equipment doesnt address the core issues of being homeless.
The only way to help your fellow man is through big gubmint darn it! Politicians need your money too!

unconsitutional
Many of the homeless are mentally ill, and homeless by choice. They'd rather live under a bridge than be confined to an institution where they would receive care.
Can we even slip them a protein bar, calling it “candy”?
I guess not, if it doesn’t have Queen Michelle’s stamp of approval displayed prominently on the wrapper.
This country is now certifiable, a few bricks short of a load, a few bubbles off plumb, nuts, and disnintegrating faster than those new-fangled packing peanuts.
Time to take to my bed and cry.
My Lord and Savior told me to feed His sheep. That outweighs man’s law.
The law pertains to do-gooders who open up a “soup kitchen” on the street with no regard for the community at large.
People can open soup kitchen that have planning and permits.
Hippies say that too. Don’t plan on opening a soup kitchen in the business part of Manhattan without problems.
This is sucker bait.
“Can we even slip them a protein bar, calling it candy?”
No, but you can slip them a few bucks to buy some booze or meth.
Hippies claim Christ wanted them to feed the homeless? In which galaxy?
I just cannot see the benefit in regulating these charitable works to death. Its precisely this kind of thing that causes the dependency on government, as it replaces what ordinary citizens are often capable of and willing to do themselves.
If I want to go into a city and help the homeless by providing a hot meal, should I really be jumping through a million hoops and fine-print documents?
And it's catching quite a few.
Maybe you’re not old enough.
You can’t open a free soup kitchen on the busiest intersection of your city without problems.
Sadly, this topic crops up too often.
It’s like DU all over again!
What? Oh, btw, the law in NYC allows me to vend from the sidewalk without a permit. Do you know why?
Can you open a soup kitchen in front of the New York Stock Exchange?
No!
This topic is dumped here by Liberals periodically.
You cannot a free soup kitchen just anywhere.
Umm. We routinely hear immans recruiting in prisons looking for violent followers useful for intimidating the masses. But, show me one report of an imman circulating among the homeless to provide them comfort. Give me a break.
remember that the goal of UN Agenda 21 for the population of the US is only 500,000 people.
the govt stooges have 299 million people to eliminate.
