When Bob Bergdahl launched in Arabic, invoking Allah while standing next to President Obama in the White House Rose Garden, a number of Americans were startled. Claire Lopez, a former CIA operations officer, a strategic policy and intelligence expert with a focus on Middle East, national defense, WMD, and counterterrorism issues, emailed her friend Allen West:
What none of these media is reporting is that the fathers (SGT Bowe Bergdahls father Bob) first words at the WH were in Arabic those words were bism allah alrahman alraheem which means in the name of Allah the most gracious and most merciful these are the opening words of every chapter of the Quran except one (the chapter of the sword the 9th) by uttering these words on the grounds of the WH, Bergdahl (the father) sanctified the WH and claimed it for Islam. There is no question but POTUS knows this.
I am not knowledgeable enough to judge the claim of sanctifying the White House and claiming it for Islam, but I place a lot of stick in watching nonverbal cues, peoples quick reactions. And so, when our friends at iOwnTheWorld.com captured and enlarged President Obamas reaction to Bergdahls invocation of Allah, it hit me hard.
Watch for yourself and see if it means anything to you.

You’re putting us on, right?
The PCA is conservative? Changing God’s name as it has been used throughout Christendom for millenia does not reconcile with being conservative.
It did indicate that obummer understood what was being said.
I also think obummer knows this could hurt him and it was like an "ouch".
It’s not changing the name, but rather how to translate it into another language, such as in this case Arabic. In Arabic, “Allah” is the word for God - both as the God spoken of in the Koran, but also generally. The controversy is should Christians use *that word* in Arabic when they translate Yaweh and Theos from the Biblical texts and preach the Gospel? How to translate the name of God into other languages has been a difficulty for centuries among Christians. The same translation question exists when translating into Hindi, Mandarin, etc. Every culture has its own word for God, but at the same time those words carry that culture’s understanding of what they view as the supreme being or essence. If you use that culture’s word, will you obscure the Biblical understanding of who God is revealed in the Scriptures? That is the controversy.
BTW, Islam has had the same problem and answered it by forbidding the translation of the Koran. (You can buy translations, but they are not considered acceptable for Islamic worship or prayer, etc.) Every muslim must learn Arabic. Interestingly, the Arabic isn’t modern Arabic, but it would be equivalent to English speakers having to read the Bible in Chaucerian English. This is also why so much of Islamic worship is done by rote memory. No one actually speaks this type of language anymore.
Is this real? Obama must have seen it before the trade... even if he didn’t read it in a newspaper first...

Wonder if this is the same branch of presbyterian that the Presbyterian Missionaries in Kenya (1961 )were part of! Too close to be coincidence?
If thats so blackmail of the family to keep them quiet may be next. What was it that Hastings was working on. Had he discovered something when doing the B B story. Time to re read that story Connect dots
My understanding was that HE pulled them!
thanx didn’t remember the source. Saw the clip somewhere on the www a few years ago.
Was Lois Anderson a member of this denomination. If so I have another theory !
( you get my son out or Ill release the documents. I don’t care if it takes 5 top detainees). Also a reason Hasting would have to be eliminated if papa had given him a heads up!
I’d say / tinfoil but too many dots too coincidental

Bump.
It’s not just wearing a piece of jewelry. Something deeper and darker
Sorry, you lost me about the blackmail and Kenya.
The Insider Movement has only just become a controversy in these conservative denominations recently (Orthodox Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Church of America). Thirty years ago when my husband and I were missionaries in India and Nepal, this type of missiology was just starting to influence the charismatic mission group with which we were then associated. However, similar ideas can be found in Hudson Taylor’s Inland China Mission (late 19th century) and further back, the Jesuits in the counter-reformation.
However, just to say, Mr. Bergdhal’s behavior (learning Arabic and Pashto) makes me wonder if he thinks that Bowe has converted to Islam. Is it his attempt to be able to speak to his son in a very dramatic reflection of Christian love towards him? I don’t know. Just trying to put what I know of the family together with what I know of missiology. The danger when you get so absorbed into another culture like this is that you can take up more than just what you need to evangelize - you start to view the world from their perspective losing your own self in the process. The famous Burmese missionary of the late 19th century Adriam Judson had to have translators when he returned the US because he forgot his English!
Ties to outing of Kabul CIA chief of station?
Error in first link
Just googled Lois Anderson. No. The Orthodox Presbyterian Church (Bergdhal’s church) and the Presbyterian Church in America both split off from the PCUSA. OPC in the 30’s; PCA early 70’s, I think. However, the ideas of the Insider Movement are influencing both liberal and conservative missiologists. The OPC and PCA are trying to determine if this view is Biblical or not for their own missionaries.
No really, it looked like an "oh crud" moment to me. He had to know that would not go over well with the American people. It was a grimace. :)
Hubby and I were both talking after that little speech of the dad's and his beard and we both thought the whole thing was odd, like the President got snookered. It's like poor Mr. President can't do anything right, one fiasco after another these past few weeks (and that's a smile on my face, not a grimace) :) It's been a rather comical few weeks for the President if it weren't such a disaster for the American people. (i.e. the Vets that died and Hubby thinks the reason he wanted this guy free was to get back in good with the vets and it all backfired on him.)
