A strong majority, 63 percent, of Americans now say that same-sex couples should have a legal right to adopt a child, according to a new Gallup poll. About one in three, 35 percent, are opposed.
The result is the opposite of 1992, when Gallup first polled the question. Sixty-three percent said homosexual couples should not be legally permitted to adopt in that year. In 1998, that number declined to 57 percent. In 2003 and 2007, Americans were about equally divided on the question.
The recent poll was the first time Gallup showed a clear majority supportive of giving same-sex couples the legal right to adopt a child.
The strongest support came from Democrats (80 percent), followed by independents (61 percent), then Republicans (51 percent).
Young people were more supportive than older people. Among ages 18 to 29, 77 percent answered that same-sex couples should have the right to adopt, followed by 65 percent for ages 30 to 49, 59 percent for ages 50 to 64 and 52 percent for those 65 and older.

“World would be better off without modern art and most art, period.”
Wow! We are brothers! I thought that I was the only one! ;-)
Not just that but “Public art”
Adopted kids have it hard regardless.
So why add to it by placing them with gay couples?
The gay men that I know are predators. In their eyes, the younger the male is the better. Your sister in law's aunt may be nice but as far as gay males go, I wouldn't trust them with boys. And what I've seen in the papers these last few years, I wouldn't trust lesbians either, especially if they are teachers.
Truly, there are many hate filled folks out there toward anyone with a moral compass. How did things get this bad that decent people cower at the sound of these brownshirts. Surely in the end it will be cowardice that completely destroys this country.
Thanks for the ping.
It appears that “Freeping Since 2001” was only FReeping for a month. I wonder if he/she was aware that you can tell when someone signed up by hovering over their name?
On topic: I find it hard to believe this poll. There are very few (if any) well done studies that establish that kids raised in homosexual households are comparable in mental health to kids raised in a two-parent home. There are plenty of anecdotal stories otherwise. I suspect that actual studies, matching children of two parent families and of homosexual “couples” would not show equivalent outcomes. For one thing, how many homosexuals form long-term relationships that are similar to married couples? From what I’ve read, even those who find long-term partners still are quite active outside of the relationship. That can’t foster a good environment for children.
I wonder... those who are doing their best to destroy normal human relationships (which are a product of millions of years of evolution)—when they’ve succeeded in destroying marriage and families, what do they think to replace those institutions with?
That is disgusting. As if the only purpose of having kids is for homosexuals to have new playthings.
Recent scientific research suggests that homosexuality in men may be caused by prenatal conditions. If so, then eventually, male homosexuality will be preventable, by identifying and mitigating those conditions.
I liked Star Trek, and I liked Lt. Sulu. But George Takei's behavior has become disgusting since then. What happened to him? It seems like becoming famous for something destroys many of those who acquire fame.
I have to ask the pollers why they even asked the question? It seems to me that homosexuals would not have a desire to procreate. After all, their sexual activities make procreation impossible, so why would they have any natural desire to raise progeny? Which nature are they denying with their sexual behaviour?
And God disagrees. Read the story of creation in Genesis again.
Yes. There is usually a little something to tide Svoltalf over, regardless how late she shows up to the party.
She is soooo cute!
