The sale of the Clippers continued on its bizarre journey late Thursday night when representatives of co-owner Shelly Sterling sent out a media release that the Sterling family trust has agreed to sell the team to former Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer for $2 billion.

Also just heard on the radio news that Donald has not agreed to sell the team.
Ballmer’s rolling in it having gotten ten times that due to his exist from Microsoft. Combine ego, a desire to redeem himself and a desire to remain high profile, and no doubt it was worth that much. To him. Time will tell whether it was a good investment or not. I suspect not. But, it’s his money to blow.
If he’s not responsible enough to sell the team now, then was he responsible enough in April to mean what he said in a private conversation?””””
An ILLEGALLY taped PRIVATE conversation INSIDE his OWN HOME!!!!
This all sets a chilling precedent, IMO.
It is usually part of the deal. Or maybe the league owns all that?
It’s a huge market, they have a strong fan base that have stayed loyal through decades of mediocrity, and a good TV deal. Also the Lakers might not be bouncing back any time soon, the brain that kept them relevant is dead and so far there’s no proof the next generation has any idea how to run a team.
there were 3 bids IIRC. It was an open process. Balmer outbid the second place by 800 mill.
If you have 20 billion and like B-ball, 2 bill is not so much.
Looks like the league really punished sterling and got another white owner to boot
LOL!
Forbes is making guesses, nobody really knows what a franchise is worth until it’s on the market. The price was probably helped by there being multiple bidders, and this being the 3rd time Ballmer has tried to buy an NBA team.
Well,..how did Jordan get into the /Charlotte Bobcats Ownership circle?
Ballmer screwed up again!
I’ve only been sort of following this, so please correct me if I’m off base (wrong sport, right?)
This is the guy who made a “racist slur”, owns a sports team (basketball?) and as a result of that slur, was banned for life from the Great Sports Gods, was then declared mentally incompetent, and then his estate sold his team? And all this happened in the space of about 2 months?
Does anyone else see a problem here? My problem screams in Russian and German accents. My kids already think I’m bat-$hit crazy, but I don’t have anything worth jack. But still....this is happening in America, right? Oh, wait, this is Obama’s America (I include him because his administration and PC are making everything racist! I have to call my red tomatoes “tomatoes” now, lest I offend anything or person who is red.
Again, please correct me if I have the basics of this case wrong. And now I will do my reading. And then I’ll probably be back, even more pissed. With art!
“Don’t throw me in the briar patch, B’rer Rabbit.”
New car, caviar, four star daydream,
Think I’ll buy me a basketball team.
I wonder how LeBron will look in a Clippers uniform?
Beat me to that...
No mention yet of what all he gets. When dealing with a fellow billionaire and real estate guy there could easily be a lot more than just the Clippies in the deal.
Doc Rivers and Chris Paul were making statements, etc.
I thought buying and selling Negros was called slavery
