There are currently 61.1 million American men in their prime working years, age 2554. A staggering 1 in 8 such men are not in the labor force at all, meaning they are neither working nor looking for work. This is an all-time high dating back to when records were first kept in 1955.
An additional 2.9 million men are in the labor force but not employed (i.e., they would work if they could find a job). A total of 10.2 million individuals in this cohort, therefore, are not holding jobs in the U.S. economy today. There are also nearly 3 million more men in this age group not working today than there were before the recession began
...
The ratio of those over 55 in the workforce actually ticked up'in other words, older Americans are being forced to return to work in a poor economy to make ends meet while many younger Americans simply arent working at all

Another Obama success story
Like any other 3rd world country, the underground economy continues to expand.
Yes a good number of these folks are home watching Springer and Maury, but a lot are also working off the books.
Just last year, American imports from China were 440 billion.
Last year, American exports to China were 122 billion.
We are running a massive trade deficit with China. China is now the second-largest economy in the entire world.
China is still growing, quickly.
He and his supporters may indeed see this as a success.
Remember, they have different worldview assumptions than we do.
Now you know why there are Death Panels....................
yep
What am I going to do about my “trade deficit” with the grocery store?
I buy far more stuff from them than they do from me!
RE: 1 in 6 American Men Between Ages 25-54 Are Not Working
That’s 16.6% unemployment right there. Yet our official rate is 6.3%.
I think it’s high time we do away with the current way of presenting unemployment and use a different measure to include those who are REALLY NOT WORKING and NOT EVEN LOOKING.
That would give us a better picture of how dire or how good the economy really is.
All that you say is true.
We buy from China because we can get things cheaper. It's all about money; always has been; always will be, for us.
The Swiss support their own industries. They WILL pay more for, say, a kilo of meat instead of driving a TAD farther and getting it cheaper.
We DON'T support our own industries because the almighty dollar has us at its feet. All hail to the almighty dollar. (sarcasm)
I want the racial breakdown...
We get the numbers when it’s a guilt trip against whites... let’s get the numbers on this... HOW MANY BLACKS AS A PORTION OF THEIR SHARE OF THE POPULATION ARE ‘DISABLED’?
What about women in that age bracket ???
Betcha there are more females working then the traditional male bread winner.
Re: “1 in 6 American Men Between Ages 25-54 Are Not Working”
Most of the men who have government jobs are not working, either.
Don't be a horse's rear end. Trade deficits between nation states is completely different than the 'trade deficit' between the neighborhood grocer and his customers.
The only thing Free Traitors have are lies and deceit. Free Traitors have completely ruined this country and there will be a reckoning.
Foreign labor has been picking California fruits and vegetables for EONS. Remember the braceros?
For gringolandia it's always ALL about money. Capitalism has some down side sometimes.
However, I wouldn't live ANYwhere else on this planet!
The Gang of 8 bill will triple legal immigration over the next decade and double the guest worker program to 1.4 million a year. We don't have a shortage of labor, we have a shortage of jobs.
Another Obama Economy success story. Awaiting Nancy Pelosi to tell us how these people have been freed from “job-lock”, have more time to pursue their hobbies, how food stamps is an economic boost and for Michele Obama to explain to us how these people could all be volunteering now. Instead of trying to work hard to get ahead because of that awful “Middle-Class-ism”.
Less than 59 percent of adults are employed.
