New reporting seems to confirm government leaker Edward Snowdens claim that he tried to bring his concerns up the chain of command before leaking top-secret documents to the press.
I actually did go through channels, and that is documented, he told NBC in an interview on Wednesday evening. The NSA [National Security Agency] has records, they have copies of emails right now to their Office of General Counsel, to their oversight and compliance folks, from me raising concerns about the NSAs interpretations of its legal authorities.
[snip]n the April 5, 2013, email, he questioned the spy agencys legal rationale for snooping on Americans and asked them to confirm the hierarchy of U.S. law, people who had read the email told NBC.
He put the Constitution on the top, and under that said that authority fell to the system of federal laws, regulations from the Defense Department, rules from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and then, on the bottom, NSA policy.

Bam bam considers Americans to be his enemy and is planning to make war on us.
It's getting increasingly difficult to answer that, without resorting to argumentum ad Hitlerum.
Had Snowden come out when a Republican was in the White House, he would be a clear hero, whistleblower and brave patriot.
But since Snowden’s leaks implicate a socialist, we are made to question his motives, his honesty, his credibility and his loyalty to the USA.
I heard the interview was heavily edited.
I did not watch the broadcast, but the newsies reported this morning that the actual interview was about 5 hours in length. So Williams/NBC did a lot of cutting.
“Had Snowden come out when a Republican was in the White House, he would be a clear hero, whistleblower and brave patriot.”
I’m not so sure...
I am 100% sure.
I suggest you spend 3 hours watching the PBS Frontline show United States of Secrets that recently aired.
The first episode was 2 hours and detailed how Cheney and Bush set it up and how Obama didn't change a thing.
Especially pay attention to those interviews with General Hayden and Al Gonzales
It may have been to protect identities. He doesn’t have to name names...just tell a story and one could guess.
The interview was heavily edited to make Snowden look good. Unless they release the entire interview it is just another piece of MSM crap.
There was only one new item in the interview. The statement that he did an internal whistle blow...that will turn out to be either true or false.
The fact that hackers..or NSA can turn on your computer or phone and use keystroke logging, camera and mic is not news. It is unlikely that the NSA or anyone would have the capacity to do that to all except targeted people. It is really just like using a radio frequency devise..you must assume that it is not secure.
Snowden didn’t need to release the huge amount of information to whistle blow. He could have gone to almost any reporter at Wapo or NYT and released only a small amount of information and gotten the word out. So..in my book he insured that our enemies got a big shot of info to destroy some of our intelligence efforts.
NBC needs to release the entire interview.
I know that. But you are spouting facts that have no bearing on liberal groupthink.
You think the facts of Valerie Plame were important?
I am 100% sure that Snowden would still be a US citizen and interviewed on every network, including Oprah, showing how evil Republicans are.
Snowden would be a special correspondent for CNN to talk about every NSA story.
Yes, the RINOs on our side are just as bad and unconstitutional. But that is irrelevant to what I said.
Snowden released various information, not merely spying on citizens.
If he is the big civil libertarian hero...why did he release espionage information regarding enemies and adversaries?
I’ll bet Zero’s peeps have what was “on the cutting room floor,” as well.

Just like so many of the Obama administration “Scandals” there is more iceberg below the waterline than above.
“I am 100% sure. “
Perhaps you are a republican? They tend to be blind to the shortcomings of their wing of the Central Oligarchy Party...
It was under their watch that the “Patriot Act” was passed.
“Snowden didnt need to release the huge amount of information to whistle blow. He could have gone to almost any reporter at Wapo or NYT and released only a small amount of information and gotten the word out. “
Disagree. The press is not independent. Remember, Obama went public and denied the spying at first, until Snowden released additional info. I’m glad he did. The revelations are not over yet.
Yeahhh....Riiiight...and the info he released related to espionage in relation to our enemies.....how is that related to his altruistic releasing of info on domestic spying?
