The White House press office canceled the daily briefing with reporters Tuesday, dodging tough questions after the press office mistakenly revealed the identity of the top CIA official in Afghanistan.
The official was named in a list of participants of a meeting with President Obama during his brief trip to Afghanistan.
After journalists at the Washington Post questioned the White House decision, the press office scrambled to update the list of participants sent to the press pool.
On Tuesday afternoon, the White House surprised reporters by canceling the White House press briefing and instead scheduling a press call on President Obamas decision to leave 9,800 U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
That means that White House Press Secretary Jay Carney wont have to face reporters shortly after his office made a critical error.
News of Obamas decision on Afghanistan broke early this afternoon as he was attending the White House science fair.
Later in the afternoon, President Obama declined to take questions from reporters gathered in the Rose Garden after he made his statement on Afghanistan.
Reporters at the White House spotted several political columnists exiting the White House prior to Obamas remarks.

They’re working hard on the coverup strategy.
This screw up is not going away.
These people don’t take legitimate unstaged questions. Sheesh everybody knows that.
Give him time, Bush was no doubt behind this.
Scooter Libby had no comment.
Just more of the same from The Most Transparent Administration in Our history.
Ya remember the meltdown the liberals had over the Valerie Plame situation? And they said how terrible it was to out a secret CIA agent? And heads should roll, etc. over such a breach???
Well, if the liberals are intellectually honest, they should demand the same of the Obama White House, that heads roll and that Obama nail down and fire whoever let this happen. And prosecute whoever let this happen.
Wasn’t a woman ‘outed’ in Afghanistan and killed? Along with a security person?
Uh ... huh ... sure, that will happen. Never.
What kind of happy juice are you drinking?
I could be wrong though.
Otherwise known as the useful idiot tools of the administration....
The Chief of Station posting is typically made WITH the host country, even in the case of Russia:
They KNOW who the guy is, and it doesn’t matter most of the time cuz the vast majority of his work is INSIDE the embassy. They know who he is and where he is, almost always.
The disclosure to the public is SUPER unusual, but they did not actually give up as most as 90% of people think.
Most likely this was DELIBERATE and was out of an effort to convince you that their Bengazi “screw ups” really were that —real screw ups.
Now WHY would they do that .?
Because in Bengazi they were NOT screw-ups.
Because Stevens was SUPPOSED to be kidnapped, and the SEALS obviously didn’t get the memo.
Will anyone be fired? Will anyone resign? Will anyone be prosecuted over this?
This make the Plame and Skooter Libby incident look like child’s play.
Sure it will. Just like...
Fast & Furious
Benghazi
NSA Spying
IRS Scandal
Obamacare
VA Scandal
And on and on and on and on
He's looking for someone to plame... er... I mean, blame... just has not found anyone yet.
