Experts: Mass murderers are hard to predict

GOLETA, Calif. (AP) - Colorado movie theater shooter James Holmes. Sandy Hook school attacker Adam Lanza. And now Elliot Rodger.

All were young loners with no criminal history who went on shooting sprees, leaving devastated families in their wake.

Mass murderers tend to have a history of pent-up frustration and failures, are socially isolated and vengeful, blaming others for their unhappiness, experts say.

"They all display deluded thinking and a lot of rage about feeling so marginalized," James Garbarino, a professor of psychology at Loyola University Chicago, said in an email.

Since mass killings are rare, scholars say there's no way to predict who has deadly intentions, let alone who will reach a breaking point and take action.

The news media causes these psychos to seek fame .that's why they do it. the news media does it on purpose .their goal is to take away our gun rights so that we can't defend ourselves against the government . even with the media egging on these killers, mass murders are extremely rare , less than 100 die in mass shootings per year. compare to 40,000 suicides, 40,000 deaths by car accidents. the media cherry picks 1 out a trillion quadrillion events and makes that news to control us

Of course part of the problem is that if one is seen as an actual threat to undertake mass murder, he/she is usually locked up or committed to a hospital somewhere, thereby aborting the immediate threat,longterm hopefully providing rehab or treatment that will decrease the threat in the future, and in essence making the prediction of violence appear to have been invalid - just one of the many joys of trying to predict human behavior.....

Similar story for Adam Lanza. Jared Loehner was also ignored. And the theater shooter too!

Mental illness is one area where govt can help... well, at least on the local level.

1. mass shootings are extremely rare. less than 100 die in mass shootings per year in the USA. that is statistically nonexistent and not the crisis the news media makes it out to be. compare to 2.5 million home invasions per year in the uSA(of course the media doesn't cover that)

2. the news media promises a psycho worldwide fame and imortality if they would only shoot a few people at the same time

3. anything can and will happen in a country of 300 million people. it is the news media focus which makes this a event or a crisis. it's not

4. the news media make these mass shootings the top news for months because they are socialists bent on taking away our gun rights.

5. don't fall into the trap of talking about this bs or the media's celebrated shooters. just point out what the media is doing.

All of them were either current patients or recent patients of psychological treatment or counseling. We need to ban such treatment immediately as it apparently does nothing to stop crazy people from killing others.

Coincidentally, Lanza and now Rodger have both reportedly been undergoing treatment for Asberger's Syndrome, and Holmes was also undergoing mental treatment for an unspecified condition. Wonder what drugs they had been prescribed?

maybe part of the study needs to show that these children might need actual parents instead of psychopaths. His father was some artist that had pictures of naked women at national monuments. my dad made gasoline and other refined products.
