Geneva (AFP) - Atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations have crossed a new threshold, the UN's weather agency said Monday, highlighting the urgency of curbing manmade, climate-altering greenhouse gases.
In April, for the first time, the mean monthly CO2 concentration in the atmosphere topped 400 parts per million (ppm) throughout the northern hemisphere, which pollutes more than the south, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said.
"This should serve as yet another wakeup call about the constantly rising levels of greenhouse gases which are driving climate change," WMO chief Michel Jarraud said in a statement.
"If we are to preserve our planet for future generations, we need urgent action to curb new emissions of these heat-trapping gases. Time is running out," he warned.
Spring values in the northern hemisphere had previously spiked over the 400 ppm level, but this was the first time the monthly mean concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere exceeded the threshold.
The global annual average is set to exceed the 400 ppm level in 2015 or 2016, the agency added.

CO2 stays locked in the atmosphere for hundreds of years, and its lifespan in the oceans is longer still.

Our planet has built-in balancing systems. For example, if a species in a region becomes over populated some natural calamity will come along to re-balance it. If one hemisphere becomes heavier than the other, the globe will naturally rotate and what was north will become south. Australia will no longer be down under. And all our drains will reverse.
Well, that’s it then.
So, why worry about it?
1st qtr, 2014 U.S. economic growth was at .01% indicating that the economic degrowth goal of “Sustainable Development/Agenda 21” as adopted by the U.S. has largely been met. This also fulfills the machevellian wish of Maurice Strong, UN Chairman of UNCED aka The Rio Earth Summit where in 1992 he articulated the veiled intentions of the “Plan for the 21st Century - Sustainable Development/Agenda 21” by saying this in regard to our “unsustainable” high consumption of natural resources which is, according to them destroying the Earth; “...isen’t it our responsibility to bring about the collapse of the industrialized countries?” Now, to become truly as “Sustainable” as perhaps Bangladesh, more vital work is quickly needed to further collapse and “Degrow” the American economy. This will be accomplished by more draconian restrictions on business and energy use which will be mandated by arbitrary regulations spawned by the bogus hype to save the planet from the dread effects of antropogenic Global Warming aka Climate Change aka Climate Disruption.
I can only imagine the sight of the massive ice sheets that used to cover EUrope.. and not so long ago..

These phony figures are based off a monitoring station in Hawaii right next to an active volcano that corrupts all the data. Google “Hawaii vog” and you will see the vog (volcanic smog) has been exceptionally bad this year because of extended periods of no trade winds. That’s how you get phony CO2 readings supposedly increasing.
Where are we now? Is he still really, really, really concerned or has he moved on to really, really, really, really concerned?
Wanna bet by this summer and fall we will hear nothing of obummercare, the VA, unemployment or Beghazi, only how only obummer can save the planet?
Ambient atmosphere contains roughly 76& Nitrogen and roughly 20% Oxygen, depending on the weather, and other variables.
That leaves roughly 4% of what we breathe to be all other gases, including CO2.
When we purged a room we would add pure Nitrogen. Within a matter of hours, length of time depending on the size of the room, the room would be at 5% or less Oxygen. Most of the other gases and Oxygen were displaced by the Nitrogen.
The Oxygen levee was then allowed to drift down to 1 to 1.5%. The CO2 level would be .2 to .3%. It was kept there by either mechanical CO2 scrubbers or lots of bags of lime.. The apples could then be kept for 9 to 10 months before packing and selling.
And yet this is a HIGHER level than the Medieval Warming period and the world is substantially cooler now than then. Oh, yeah, and there’s been no actual warming increase in almost 20 years now.
Time to panic? Only if you’re a cohort of third world dictators trying to dupe the U.S. into forking over trillions of free money to them because somehow third world countries will be more affected by the warming that hasn’t been happening .
