Inevitably, when you talk about white privilege someone will ask the question, What about poor white people? What privilege do they have?
In January 1961, John F. Kennedy was inagurated as the nations thirty-fifth president. In February 1961, he signed an executive order for a pilot food stamp program, one based on the model previously used during the Great Depression. During his campaign, Kennedy had spent much time in West Virginia, and according to his speechwriter Ted Sorensen, was appalled by the pitiful conditions he saw, by the children of poverty, by the families living on surplus lard and corn meal, by the waste of human resources . He called for better housing and better schools and better food distribution . He held up a skimpy surplus food package and cited real-life cases of distress. Kennedy saw people in need and used his power as president to address their crisis.
This week, the House Appropriations Committe released a draft of the 2015 Agriculture Appropriations bill. In it, $27 million is budgeted for a pilot program aimed at reducing child hunger in rural areas. Sounds innocuous enough," writes MSNBCs Ned Resnikoff, except the $27 million program was actually the committees substitute for a White House proposal which would have allocated $30 million to child hunger across urban and rural areas.
Resnikoff goes on to point out that this doesnt mean children in urban areas will be completely left out of hunger reducing programs, as the federal government spends hundreds of millions of dollars on the Summer Food Service Program, which provides meals to low-income children when school is not in session and they dont have access to free or reduced school lunch, and that there are specific challenges that face rural areas with regards to food insecurity. However, the House committees proposal is likely to help fewer people of color than the White House proposal. And while rural areas may be unique in terms of the challenges they face, theyre not where most of Americas hungry are concentrated.
Theyre also among the whitest. The Appalachian region, which is where this money would go, writes Talking Points Memos Sahil Kapur, is also more white (83.5 percent) than the United States overall (63.7 percent), according to the Appalachian Regional Commissionand much more so than urban areas, which have a disproportionately high share of minorities.
Its not that Kennedy or this current House subcommittee ever explicitly said white hunger is more important than black hunger, white poverty is more important than black poverty. But the seeming indifference toward black poverty, played out in their actions as elected officials, reflects the privileging of whiteness. It is indecent that any person go hungry, particularly in a country of such abundance. It is indecent to determine that some of those people are more worthy of our investment in their being fed than others. It is indecent to then pretend as if thats not the case. All these indecencies add up to an injustice. We are a country that practices injustice as a way of life.
Yes, you can be poor and white and still benefit from white supremacy. Thats what privilege is.
And no, it is NOT the computer jackwagon.
Ya gots to be quick.

Lose those little dot thingies and your on the yellow brick road. To close that tag requires more money. :^)
"America was built on the backs of black people" is the key phrase of the race-baiters. I suppose that includes places like the upper Midwest where the presence of black people was statistically insignificant in many areas. Even today much of the upper Midwest has few black people outside the big metro areas. How did all those cities, towns, roads, farms, factories etc. get built with few black people? It's a mystery.
If you're like me, your White Privilege is in working in excess of 40, 50 and occasionally 60 hours per week, driving 12 year old POC GMC SUV, who does NOT have a "smartphone" I have a basic phone that I load minutes onto when I need them, and for the "privilege" of working 40-60 hour work weeks, I pay almost 60 cents of every dollar I make in some form of tax (Federal taxes, state income taxes, property taxes, sales taxes and any other damn' tax the government can think to throw at me and make me pay.)
I get my ass out of bed every day to go to work. I have neuropathy in both feet (no feeling in my feet) a bad back after 4 major back surgeries, a slight double-vision, I'm 52 and my health is failing. That's "White Privilege."
Now, let's define what BLACK PRIVILEGE is, shall we?
They're the lay-around-at-home making babies to get more government checks, more government benefits, more Obama Phones, more food stamps, more free housing, more free utility assistance, free government grants to go to college that go to waste and more "free" benefits that you and I have been working our asses of to pay for, and the lazy good for nothing government moochers have been doing it for 3-4 generations now.
Really, where is my "white privilege?"
I've got a 17 year old planning to head off to college next year. Government says I make too much for him to qualify for ANY financial grants. I make too much? How about the thieving bastards in the Government TAKE TOO MUCH. Where's my kids "free rides" for their college tuition?? "White privilege" ... no, it's black privilege. They're getting everything and we're paying for it. Makes me sick that I get up every day and go to work.
So does a big fat mortgage!
;-)
Sounds like what happen to me. Folks made too much for me to get any kind of financial grants, and too little to pay for college.
I eventually got to college after working three years and saving my money. Went to school during the day and a job in the evening to make gas money and help out my parents for letting me stay at home.
Actually I would recommend to all college students to work for a few years before going to college. You take it very seriously when you are paying for your education.
bullshit
does he think there are no black kids in Alabama in the rural areas? Mississippi? Arkansas? Guess again.
“Mike you spelled your first name wrong...there is no real name of Denzel, so scrap that.”
Wadjew say? My uncle wud resemble that! And his brother Devoid wud two !!!
Wonder the same. I’ve had times of feast and famine, some of it due to economic factors and the rest good or bad me. It sickens me too about the people you see that I also see.
You weren’t forced into a gang
You didn’t have to walk home with pimps and gansta’s on every corner
You probably had a mom and a dad
...etc.
see how that works? By others taking no responsibility for their actions mean you had an unfair advantage - all while just being “normal”. It is an absolutely twisted thought process, you’d have to be a liberal to believe it. Of course, liberals are so “open minded” that they accept it, it’s a “nuanced” opinion. If I ever get confronted with this I let them know how racist it is.
Mao perpetuated myths about the Chinese middle class to justify its extermination. Every ethnic bigot in history has had an argument to justify his position.
I finished in three years, you're highly motivated to graduate as quickly as possible when you're the one paying for it.
Not too far behind is Lake County. The only difference is you will get jumped if you dare go to parts of Baldwin, the County Seat. For some reason minorities congregated there even though there wasn't much to steal and destroy to begin with.
If I remember correctly, Jesse Jackson mentioned Blacks would not move to West Virginia because there wasn’t enough monetary support for them there.
Appalachia is totally forgotten. Southern Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia are being allowed to die simply because the elites acceptable prejudice is against the inbred, white trash, meth-head breeders infesting the mountains.
And, yes, I have heard it from the DC metro denizens in exactly those words.
The contempt for these citizens is utterly appalling.
The whole laughable concept of White Privilege is just the dying cries of racebaiters on their last legs.
Idlewild was supposed to be the black vacation spot back when there was de jure segregation. It was becoming a big deal until integration happened and that was it.
One think Baldwin has is the Pere Marquette river going for them.
I will soon be retiring there. My property has the Little Manistee running through it. My Mom and Dad’s place (mine now since they have both passed) is right in Luther proper and is about 130 yards from the Little Manistee.
There were always problems around Idlewild when I was a child but some has drifted into Baldwin. There is some type of dollar store or value mart on the north end of the city and the last time I drove by there last year the parking lot was full of people hanging out. Not a good indicator of safety.
It isn’t Detroit but it is still not a place I would hang around. I’ll stick to the woods and hunting and fishing on the Pine River.
