"Enough is enough. She's innocent. She didn't bother nobody."
That was Onjuan Guyton's plea as his 10-year-old daughter Sierra Guyton struggled for life after being caught in a crossfire Wednesday evening on the playground of Clarke Street Elementary School. Think about that: A 10-year-old shot on her school playground. What kind of world allows that to happen?
We hope Onjuan Guyton's plea of "enough" resonates in the neighborhoods around Sierra's school, and stirs parents, community leaders and young black men to stand up against the violence around them, as columnist James E. Causey urged in his column Friday morning. Without that community effort, Milwaukee police don't have much of a chance against the violence. This has to start in the city's neighborhoods with a refusal to condone violence and a recognition that a gun doesn't make you a man.
We hope it stirs police and city officials to continue their efforts to add more officers to the streets and target them effectively to the places they're needed. A larger police presence sends the message that the city is serious about crime. And more officers should help with a burnout issue described by police union head Michael Crivello and Ald. Bob Donovan. But, as important as it is, just adding more officers is not enough, as Police Chief Edward Flynn and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett have repeatedly argued

They can't tell you where AfricaAmerica is, neither can I, but they use this term as if it was once/or still is a place somewhere in America.
All one has to do is watch all the Judge shows on TV each day, especially Judge Mathis and now the awful "Paternity Court" & "Divorce Court", where they proudly display their ignorant & disgusting lifestyles for all the world to see, where they sterotype themselves and prove our point about them, but it is racis if we "think" it.
Good points in a thoughtful post!
Then it would be the “right to life” groups raising hell!
So, bottom line, have we as a society just got to the point we are ungovernable ?
Is it time to say “ok, these states and towns are liberal and these states and towns are conservative?”
Liberalism builds its own Capitol somewhere and conservatives do the same.
Austin could be the liberal enclave in Texas. Indeed, it already is. So, Austin (Travis County) could impose on themselves every little liberal whim that comes down the pike, as long as they have the tax base to pay for it!
It is perhaps relevant that Joe recognized the greatest inhumanity and evil being committed in Africa at the time was by Europeans, specifically those working for King Leopold in the Congo Free State.
see Margaret Sanger and the Negro Project.
Sorry, but that's just not the problem.
Let us assume all the baby-daddies stayed around. Men who abandon their children to the ghetto are more or less by definition irresponsible, and a very high percentage of them are thugs.
Does having Daddy, who's a thug, around magically produce a generation of responsible young black men? I rather doubt it.
IOW, this idea confuses cause and effect. Black boys grow up without responsible fathers because their baby-daddies are irresponsible thugs.
Or a private group offering a $1,000 stipend to any woman between 18 and 20, currently getting welfare, who elects to get sterilized. That would have lib heads having a thermonuclear detonation.
Rather conflicts with the whole "stop snitching" meme.
And the women get pregnant by thugs, because thugs are more sexy than guys who work as WalMart managers.
This is not anything new -- lots of women have always been attracted to "bad boy" types. In the past, though, a women had no choice but to marry a guy with a good enough job to support a family, instead of the bad boy. What's new is that the government enables them to screw the bad boys and still survive on a government stipend.
We will have this dysfunction for as long as government enables it.
And the thug life has always had its attractions for boys, but they knew that if they lived it they’d be unable to attract a wife and therefore would have to live a largely celibate life.
Today the bad boys largely sponge off the baby mamas and get stuff from them as well as sex.
Of course the article states more gun laws will fix the problem. I live 35 miles north of Milwaukee, work in Milwaukee, and grew up in a suburb. They need to enforce the existing laws, which are plenty. The thugs so often get a slap on the hand, if that. Mayor Barrett and Chief Flynn are a bunch of liberals that talk out of their butts. I don’t claim to know the answer, but it certainly isn’t a bunch of empty words from those 2 yahoos. Sheriff David Clarke has a few ideas, but since he’s not a liberal, and he’s black, no one in Milwaukee listens to him.
What’s stopping liberals from solving all these problems? In Chicago they’ve been in power for a century. Isn’t that enough time?
I appreciate your valid comments but I think they fall a little short.
My suggestion about vasectomies, if implemented, would nullify your point would it not because there would, over time and thanks to modern birth control, be fewer and fewer unwanted black babies around because all the black males in town were shooting blanks............. ergo the concept of a “thuggish” black male hanging around his kid (and I totally agree with you on that) is now invalid because the “thuggish” kid is not a dad because he had a vasectomy 15-25 years earlier.
I may have been unclear on one major ingredient here and that is TIME. If vasectomies started being implemented tomorrow on newborn black babies it would take around 15 years or so to start seeing results. But, it is a START towards a solution to crime in the inner cities that WILL reduce unwed mothers, fatherless kids, and uncared for kids.
Now, my suggestion is, admittedly, no panacea because it takes TIME. But, it is undeniable that IN TIME it would work and thousands of unwanted, uncared for babies committing crime would simply vanish from the inner city. Vasectomies aren’t free either but I bet the taxpayer could be talked into paying for them in lieu of the reward.
