Businesses are going everywhere but New York
New York Post ^ | 05/26/2014 | By John Aidan Byrne

New York is losing the battle to lure outsourced jobs now slowly trickling back to the US — and more competitive regions are poaching Gotham’s jobs.

The tax breaks and incentives to stem New York’s slide? Too little, too late, critics say.

“If you’re a businessman thinking of bringing jobs back to one of the 50 states, then New York is at the bottom of that list,” said Neal Asbury, a manufacturer who grew up in Morristown, NJ, and has studied New York’s high cost base.

“You have a governor telling the world he doesn’t want conservatives in his state because you have to think like him — and you have a New York City mayor obsessed with raising taxes to pay for more entitlements. That is not sending a great message,”

The crowd is made up of those too poor to escape, and those who prey on them.

One saving grace of California is their gigantic technology industry. Why do you think home prices in the San Francisco Bay Area never cratered--the success of Apple, Facebook, Google and a number of biotechnology firms pretty much kept the state's economy from completely collapsing like what happened to a number of states.

Very true.

It's also very true that the software industry in Silicon Valley has been INUNDATED with Indian software engineers. THEY will work for much less, longer hours and will, without doubt, send money home to India....then eventually bring their families here. That's show biz.

Property values don't seem to go down, do they? They actually did, a TINY bit. They will increase again.

RetSignman:" Their campaign to draw businesses to NY by a ‘no taxes for ten years’ will not work because smart businessmen know that
the far left liberals in NY will use ‘fees’ to reclaim the money they lose in ‘taxes’."

Rumor has it that Hurricane Sandy funds we used to fund the NYS Governors commercial about business returning to NY
Gov. Cuomo proposes to return $250.oo to each NYS taxpayer immediqately prior to the Govenernor's re-election campaign.
It is all 'smoke and mirrors' as this is additional debt funded by debt bonds.
Additional fees: everytime you renew your car insurance in NYS , you pay an additional $15.oo to the State for each payment.
If you pay car insurance month to month, that is an additional $180.oo per year , just to be insured .
It is the hidden fees that wear you down .. !!

It's more than just taxes.

I've dealt with a number of businesses in light to heavy industries that fled New York State because they say it has the highest workers' compensation insurance rates in the nation -- by a huge margin.

The saga of the GE plant in Hudson Falls and the massive clean-up costs they've been forced to pay is another case in point about why New York is such a miserable place to do business.

We have that type of situation where I live in Eastern MA.
Absolutely ridiculous.

Do you know that of you are late with your (required) car insurance payment, there is mandatory notification from the insurer to the state, and that they can (and sometimes do) impound your car?

There are many characteristics of New York that make it a fascist state, but this isn't one of them. For all its flaws, New York has a reputation for having one of the most effectively regulated insurance industries in the nation -- which is why insurance companies often brag about their New York presence as a symbol of their stability.

The situation you describe isn't a symptom of a fascist state. It's a symptom of a state where insurance fraud is a major problem -- largely because it's filled with quasi-humanoid mutants who have no business living in a free, orderly society. They've figured out that an easy way to drive without insurance is to make one initial payment on an annual policy, get the insurance card to verify that they are insured, and then drive around for the rest of the year without making any more payments. The insurance company will cancel the policy, but that doesn't stop them from driving around and putting other people at risk without any insurance coverage.

I live in New York, and I used to run a business here. The income taxes are high, the sales taxes are high, the property taxes are high, the tax on gasoline is high, Worker’s Comp premiums were high. You have a ton of regulations and unions are strong here. Add to that a governor who says that being a conservative makes you unwelcome. You would have to be a fool to set up shop in New York (unless you get a massive subsidy, and even then).

Singapore is arguably more dense. But businesses flock there ( Including many ex-pat Americans who sadly, renounced their US citizenships ).

Even with the Chewing Gum Ban ,LOL

I feel bad for the people living upstate, but there may be good news for them.

Without new industry, New York will need new tax revenue. The only realistic new source of revenue will be from oil drilling, which the state government will have to allow. They will have no choice.

And that will benefit the people who live upstate.

I know a guy who is buying up as much old farmland as he can.

Businesses should be very clear to the leaders of New York.

“You are a socialist. You love socialism. You think it is great and will do all sorts of idealistic wonders, even though it has never successfully done so anywhere in the world despite being tried hundreds of times. But socialism is parasitical. It sucks the vitality and prosperity out of a place and leaves ruination, poverty, despair and misery in its wake.

“Now while we cannot control or change your fantasies about a failed 19th Century philosophy, we do not wish to be victimized by it or you, just because you have no pattern recognition and mentally live in a delusional fantasy world populated by hate-filled neurotics like yourself.”

If Upstate NY was a separate state, you might see a thriving state, unfortunately itis ccontrolled by the NYC area.

It's maybe not a "great" message, but it is the "right" one.

...it’s hard to imagine how anyone can live there (NY).

I'm like you. I escaped in 1986 and never looked back. Heck, since my Mom died I don't even go back there for a short visit. New York (upstate, anyhow) used to be a great place to live. Now it is run by control freak Liberals. All they want to do is tax and exploit the peasantry and anybody else trying to still make an honest living.

I'm surprised they haven't put up barbed wire and guard towers to keep the few productive people who are left in there as tax slaves.

Several years ago Exxon moved it s corporate headquarters out of Rockefeller Center in New York City to Irving, Texas. David Rockefeller, son of the founder of the predecessor companies to Exxon, John D. Rockefeller, built Rockefeller Center, so that is a particularly significant relocation.

More recently Exxon has begun moving employees in several East Coast locations, including Fairfax, VA (Near Washington, DC) and Parsippany, New Jersey to a campus being constructed north of Houston, Texas. This move involves several thousand employees overall.

When the largest public oil company in the world decides to disrupt the lives of thousands of employees, it is not done lightly, but after careful analysis.

One may not approve of Exxon, but they are capable managers of their investments and operating expenses. Their moves are very telling about the state of the East Coast, and New York in particular.

I loved that commercial they were broadcasting recently.

At the same time the Mayor of NYC was telling conservatives to get the hell out.

Desperate Much NY?

Having a paper insurance card still ‘proves’ you have insurance in NY state? How backward! Cops here check the database. Having an insurance card means nothing.

Yup. We've been hearing those ads in Texas for quite a while. No savvy business will move there. Just wait until that ten years is over and bend over.

Even in NC. I got popped going 80 in a 65. DL was all that was needed. Registration and insurance are tied to it.
