Before you come down on the cops, it would be a good idea to ask yourself what exactly they are supposed to do in a case like this. If you have an adult who has not committed a crime and hasn't given a clear, unambiguous threat that puts someone in imminent danger, then the police don't have the legal authority to do anything with him.
This isn't a law enforcement problem. It's one of the defining characteristics of a free nation.

what do you want the cops to do?...they can't barge in and handcuff him because someone says so?....
the only time when the thought police can prevail is if you are an unmitigated Christian.....then, you can be locked up instantly....
