A federal judge has lifted a temporary restraining order that had stopped the U.S. military from force feeding a hunger-striking prisoner at Guantanamo Bay naval base, saying the man’s life hangs in the balance.
Late Thursday night, U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler said the military must be allowed to carry out force feeding in the case of Abu Wa’el Dhiab because of the “very real probability that Mr. Dhiab will die.” …

I don’t understand why they don’t just let him die. What would it matter if he died as what he would think of as a martyr?
I have never understood this. If he wants to die by starvation let him. This makes as much sense as the doctrine that you cannot execute an insane man since he doesn’t understand the situation.
yes--i agree... and i am surprised that this Bill Clinton-appointed judge does not allow Mr. Dhiab to continue as he wishes... surely she believes in the freedom of "dying with dignity..." what is it to her if he chooses to die?
I have a ‘feeding tube’ that I would volunteer to be used on these swine.

It is beyond the pale the abusive behavior of the Islamic terrorists imprisoned in Gitmo when they get better medical and religious care than our veterans. Under the Obama regime there are 100 physicians, dentists and nurses to provide VIP medical care to 150 murderous Islamic terrorists detained a Gitmo. They are provided a Koran(Bibles forbidden to our soldiers) And a rug pointing to Meca for their daily prayers.

Detainees in Gitmo, for instance, are given “three hot halal meals per day – with 4,500-5,000 cal/day” and they have “six menus for detainees to choose from – specifically: regular, high fiber, vegetarian, vegetarian with fish, bland, and soft food.” Is this the Ritz Carlton or a prison facility?
“A typical meal includes,” the report continues, “meat, starch (plus bread), vegetable, dessert, fruit, fruit juice or similar drink.” If ordinary Cubans knew how well the Gitmo detainees were eating, they would be clamoring for admittance.
The report even documented how “recently, an additional pillow was issued to detainees at the camp” because “some of the detainees did not prefer the pillow built into the foam mattress.” Detainees are provided a Koran in “the language of their choice,” prayer beads, a cap, a rug and a prayer schedule. Some detainees are given $100 a month to buy snacks. Cooperative detainees (the ones not throwing their feces at the soldiers) can play in a recreation yard that has soccer, basketball, volleyball, table tennis and foosball facilities. Yes, you heard that right. Foosball.
The report does, however, document some recent horrors that occurred. During two inspections, the report reads, “a small number of meals delivered to detainees in Camps 5 and Echo . . . were approximately five degrees under the optimal standard.” For shame.
Many detainees have already been released. Unfortunately, many of those who have been released have returned to the battlefield to fight America and its interest. One former Gitmo detainee, as the New York Times reported, became a leader of Al-Qaeda’s Yemen branch. This should remind us that America is still at war and that the prisoners in Gitmo are not mostly boy scouts. Despite left-wing activists’ desire to paint Gitmo as an international symbol of depravity, it is far from it.

I thought liberals were all for euthanasia for those who no longer wanted to live.
I would suggest force feeding him bacon, but why waste good bacon?

The prisoner obviously will kill himself by starvation if left to himself, which is somewhat odd: for in Islam, suicide is an “unforgivable sin.”
Apparently blowing oneself up with a suicide bomb also does not count.
The answer is that we are taking Islam much too seriously, as if it were actually a valid, respectable religion. World-wide, predominantly Moslem countries have high crime rates, low economic productivity, poor work-ethic, tendency to plunder neighbors, poor social standards (as in treatment of women and children), barbaric behavior, cruelty, mass ignorance, and lack of much sense of the enjoyment of life. Islam is, truly, a gutter religion.
Anything goes in jihad, though.
Oh. For a second, from the headline, I thought they were going to force feed a gitmo prisoner...to a shark.
