WASHINGTON (AP) -- From workers in Congress and at the White House to active duty troops, more than 318,000 federal employees and retirees owe just over $3.3 billion in back taxes, the Internal Revenue Service said Thursday.

That works out to nearly 3.3 percent of all 9.8 million federal workers and retirees who are behind on their taxes, which is significantly lower than the proportion of delinquent taxpayers in the overall population. The IRS said it estimates that to be at least 8.7 percent...

Why aren’t they in prison? That’s where we would be if we hadn’t paid the king.

When us normal Americans owe the IRS money, they simply go after our banks, and even go straight to our employers and start taking our paychecks!

HOW IN THE HELL IS THIS A DIFFICULT THING TO REMEDY?

I wonder when Odinga will send armed BLM agents to surround their houses and demand payment?

And I guess they are garnishing their own wages?

I saw on FNC that the ‘average’ owed by federal workers for their unpaid taxes was over $10k.

Why doesn’t the IRS just garnish their wages or bank accounts in amounts that would have them paid in full within 10 months? I don’t care if it’s someone who only owes $4000 or $80,000k.

Disclosure... Years ago, my divorce became final in early January. The property tax bill, etc., was sent a couple of months earlier and indicated no penalty if paid by late Jan-early Feb. In December, I was busy paying for a down payment on a new house for the spouse, so I forgot about the property tax until late Jan.

Filed my Fed. income tax return and claimed the property tax as a deduction. Got a letter from the IRS saying I owed them money. Called the number and found out I had screwed up by not paying the property tax before Dec.31, so it was a false return. Set up payments with the IRS. .......Lesson learned.

Good outcome was that for the next year’s tax return deduction I had TWO years of property taxes to declare!

Since they’re on the GOVERNMENT PAYROLL, there’s NO EXCUSE for NOT DOCKING THEIR PAYCHECKS!!!

Actually, that's a strategy used by thousands of filers: pay two years property taxes one year (i.e. Jan & Dec), take standard deduction in the alternate year. Check it out...it might work for you.

Because they are members of a "Protected" class. They don't have to work, pay taxes, can't be fired and enjoy lavish bonuses and perks. What could be un-American about that? Why should they be punished? It is after all the Chicago way, and now the national way.

Good for you!

The IRS seems to check OUR tax returns and not hesitate to take action. This year I made a mistake on my 1040 and paid too much. The IRS caught it and sent me the money back. I was shocked that they actually checked the return, and then sent the money back.

I was also shocked that I messed up the return, but that kind of thing has been happening to me more these days.

They should be held to the highest standards and prosecuted to the full extent of the law, sent to jail and forfeit all future benefits.

Fire everyone one of the useless parasites. Since all agencies of the gov’t have vast quantities of ammo they should fire figuratively too. They made this TEA party supporter pay within weeks of our CPA submitting our taxes even though we planned to submit a revised when we found the document.

9.8 million federal employees in a nation of 300 million is the real problem.
