After the public demonstrations of the Vietnam era, it was decided to have an all volunteer army thus avoiding the outrage of draftees and their families. Now we have sequestor and other cuts in military spending. The question now becomes do we cut contracts with Lookheed etc. or do we cut services to veterans, or do we keep paying for a large army and honor our commitments to veterans? As the mother of a son in Special Forces, I worry about these decisions.
