McConnell vows ‘free-wheeling’ Senate under his leadership

Fresh off his resounding Republican primary victory Tuesday night, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell Thursday laid out a broad vision of what the Senate would look like under his control.

Bottom line, McConnell, wouldn’t run the way Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., runs it now, the Kentucky Republican told the center-right American Enterprise Institute.

‘A Senate majority under my leadership would break sharply from the practices of the Reid era in favor of a more free-wheeling approach to problem solving,’ McConnell said in a speech. ‘I would work to restore (the Senate’s) traditional role as a place where good ideas are generated, debated and voted upon. We’d fire up the committee process. We’d work longer days and weeks, using the clock to force consensus.’

And McConnell’s money shot: ‘In marked contrast to the Reid era, we would allow an open amendment process – ensuring senators on both sides a chance to weigh in on legislation and alleviating the frustration that inevitably results when they can’t.’

Don’t worry — McConnell will never be Majority Leader.

That's funny right there, I don't care who you are.

"The mission statement still reads conservative, but we are overrun with GOP ‘moderates’ fully on board with lesser evil."

The bastards stay well away from me...cause I sure don't see many of 'em.

They can probably smell me on a thread:)

How can you miss them? Not a thread seems to pass without one of them telling us that we have to moderate, compromise or abandon principle by holding our nose and voting for people we spend years trashing as unfit for the job.

I really don’t see the point anymore of advocating conservatism id at the end of the day we just go vote for whoever the GOP puts up regardless of how closeted (or open) a democrat they are.

What is the point? Can someone please explain in rational terms why we waste this much of our lives only to forget everything we advocate out of ‘fear of Democrat”?

We either believe in conservatism and fight for it or we do not. Many here do not. That’s what acceptance of people like Mitch and Bhoner means. People do not believe in the things they say.

So when the Democrats control the Senate the Democrats win, and when the Republicans control the Senate the Democrats win? Stupid idea Mitch. Did Boehner help you come up with that plan?

You are a sad small minded person. I not only would fund the commit Democrap I would vote for her also.
If you can’t primary a bad RINO replace them with a bad Democrap then replace the Democrap with a Conservative.
The problem with most conservatives is they bring a knife to a gun fight. I was born in Cook county and we know a little about fighting dirty.

If Kentucky Conservatives have any principles, the chances of McConnell being reelected are slim.

Although the RealClearPolitics average of four recent polls shows the general-election race to be almost a tossup--McConnell leads the challenger, Alison Lundergan Grimes, by a scant half-percentage point, on average--my guess is that he will pull away over the remaining period of five-and-a-half months, and win rather handily.

Speak for your own state. We have a very good chance of removing the last powerful member of the old Lundergan establishment by ousting Stumbo as speaker this year - we sure as heck don’t want to award them a U.S. Senate seat and allow them to not only regain their stature in this state, but expand it to the national stage. McConnell will not be in the Senate much longer and he has no heir apparent to continue any sort of a dynasty - the young Lundergan would be around for a long time to come.

McConnell’s behavior as leader is shaped by the members of the caucus and their own attitude. Focus on getting a better caucus, you get a better leader. Ben Sasse and TW Shannon will be excellent new members of that caucus, for example.

Since you’re predicting future events could you include the winning numbers for this weekend’s Powerball drawing?,

???? Among other things, I stated this: "Disgusting, but most likely the reality we will face..."

Based on the evil GOPe's leadership and actions in the past, I was stating what most "likely" will happen -- just common sense.

In other words: it’s going to look a lot like the Senate right now only with Republicans in charge.

Just as a point of refrence. Conservatives have predicted the following (partial list) with 100% accuracy:

Warned that if people accepted Romney as a candidate, the GOP would be turning hard left.

Warned that feet would not be held to the fire

Warned that moderates would get an early start on pushing liberals/moderates because ‘they can win’

Warned that Issa would launch more and more investigations as cover for never finishing and holding accountable anyone in earlier investigations.

Warned that the GOP leadership would turn on conservatives in full force

Warned that the GOP included many ‘members’ were former Dem operatives

Warned that the GOP would moderate on homosexuality and abortion

Warned about all sorts of things that people would rather forget that we were DEAD RIGHT ABOUT. Perhaps people should start listening to us since having a 100% accurate track record in prediction is as good as it can possibly get.

Don’t get hate us because we were correct. Listen to us because we have a record of being correct.

You are a sad small minded person.

And you're a big poo poo head. Are we done with personal insults or shall we go on?

I not only would fund the commit Democrap I would vote for her also.

Then you would vote to keep Harry Reid in the majority leader position. I fault McConnell for a lot of things but one of the biggest is not standing up to Harry and his cohorts. I certainly don't thinks it's in this country's best interest nor in the interests of conservatives to keep the status quo. We can pressure McConnell to do the right things as majority leader (most of the right things that have been done have been through grassroots or Ted Cruz style of pressure)... but we have absolutely no chance with the Dems in charge.

You may see me as "small-minded" but I am a realist. Every democrat senator is a vote for Harry Reid in the leadership of the Senate and every democrat congressman is a vote for Nancy Pelosi to set the agenda in the House. You don't have to like it for it to be the truth.

This question has been discussed to death and answered a million times. The only people at this point that don’t know what we have to do simply refuse to accept what we have to do. Or they just want to keep electing our problems.
