Moussa Sidimé, a Longueuil, Que., man who pleaded guilty in the 2010 death of his teenage daughter, was sentenced today to 60 more days in jail and then probation of two years.
Sidimé, 74, pleaded guilty to manslaughter after slapping his 13-year-old, Nouténé, so hard that an artery in her brain ruptured.
His remaining children said putting their father behind bars would be doing the family more harm than good.
A criminologist who took the stand agreed, noting Sidimé had no recorded history of violence.

men shouldn’t be fathering at that age....they’re too old to be good fathers...being a good father means having patience, and stamina, and compassion and exuberance....

In this country you might get off by saying cultural differences if you are an illegal or Muslim, heck some judge might throw you in the clink for 30 days for rape, but we have so many bad judges the bad ones really stand out.
Serving your sentence on weekends sounds like the most retarded thing I ever hard.
How about throwing them in jail 9-5 and paying them?

No one does, until they commit a crime.

Should have gotten more time.
But it would be difficult to convict him of much more severe charges.
Murder can't apply, because that requires intent, even if only momentarily, to kill. Nobody tries to kill a more or less grown person by slapping her.
So the maximum charge that could probably stick is manslaughter, of which he was duly convicted.
A slap just isn't an efficient mechanism to transfer energy. Not to mention that most guys in their 70s aren't capable of hitting all that hard.
I wonder if she may have had some sort of embolism or other problem that interacted with the slap to cause her death.
I met with Member of parliament yesterday, and they are working on things like this, they just did a quiet 10% cut to all government agencies and doing more. Now we won’t get arrested for defending ourselves in our homes etc either.
Stuff like this is not indicative of the country as a whole just like I don’t judge the US off some nutjobs.
Of course I think you were probably just joking anyways.
I should think that such qualities as patience and compassion might actually be found more often among older fathers.
