Courting powerful Jewish donors for the second time in two months, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie called Sunday for a more aggressive foreign policy that defends American values abroad even in "in some very messy, difficult places."
"The rest of the world watches in desperation and hope that America will realize and act upon once again its indispensable place in the world," Christie, a prospective Republican presidential contender, said in a keynote address Sunday at the Champions of Jewish Values International awards gala in New York. "We must lead."
He charged that America must represent the strongest military and economic power, but also "the strongest moral power for what is good and what is right in the world."

I know he's not liked here and I hated seeing him with Obama in the wake of Hurricane Sandy - but I live in NJ and he's been a very good Governor and he's been good for NJ. I have met the man a few times - he's a good decent man who puts his family first. That said, he's still a politician!
And I don't think he can win a national campaign. I think his matter of fact pointed message, often delivered bluntly and with sarcasm and swagger will not translate in many areas of the country - or with those that are more sensitive to the ways ideas and messages are delivered.
So without resorting to comments about the mans weight or looks - we're above that aren't we?? - what do you see as his biggest impediment? What's the reason for him running? Maybe he can get the nomination and I'm selling him short?
Has their been any real indication from folks like Cruz or Paul that they will run? Does Cruz have national appeal?
So far we have Rubio-Christie-and it seems like Jeb Bush. A flawed field to be sure......
Thoughts?
But not our own borders.
Shut up you fat muslim loving donut eater.
“the strongest moral power for what is good and what is right in the world.”
Can we try that at home first?
Personally, I'd like a bit more detail before spending yet more American lives and treasure.
Spot on. I’m not an isolationist by any means, but can we please direct some of this “off budget financing” inwards for a change.
NJ is broke. According to last weeks poll, the majority of its residents do not want to live there. As governor of such a messed up state, he should not be worried about foreign affairs. Fix NJ first before branching out to the world.
That is what I’m talking about! :)
What poll is this? I live here, in a great town with great schools continually ranked high in the nation.
NJ has it’s dumps like any other state: Newark, Camden, Paterson... but it’s got lots of great places to live and I doubt “the majority of residents” want to live elsewhere.
If that were true, what’s stopping them? I could sell my house here, move south, pay for a bigger house with CASH and still pocket a few hundred thousand after the sale. The gap in real estate is noticeable.
The issue is, when you do that, you can no longer make the sort of salary you were - and or the schools or healthcare stinks...
Fantastic. This has worked out so well in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, etc I can't imagine what the downsides are.
(/sarc)
That was almost as bad as the hurricane itself. And sadly, it did little good. There are so many still homeless or with ruined businesses since Sandy and we’re going on 2 years now.
I have lots of friends that lost houses or businesses down the shore. FEMA has been useless. They are left with mold ridden couches that FEMA won’t replace because “you can still sit on them”. Insurance is useless. These people have literally been left out in the cold.
Yes, Christie is definitely sending a message that he is running.
Guess he figures that bridge-gate ran its course.
Christie could not elaborate on what exactly “more aggressive foreign policy” means to him and nobody bothered to ask?
Just another hit piece to make Republicans look like war mongers and cover for Obama while he uses US military, US $, to support heroin cartels the Middle East.
In Syria alone there have been $160,000 reported killings in 3 years of Obama funded war. Syria, like the Ukraine, is a strategically located drug trafficking route. Obama has given rebels $127 MIllion, that’s just what we know of.

Exactly... I’d like someone to actually articulate what ARE “American values” these days.
And then explain why anyone should die for them.
Today's soldier has my undying respect - why they go through what they do is beyond me.
Yeah, right. So that's why we care more about gay rights than the massacre of Christians.
