SANTA BARBARA, Calif. Should students about to read The Great Gatsby be forewarned about a variety of scenes that reference gory, abusive and misogynistic violence, as one Rutgers student proposed? Would any book that addresses racism like The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn or Things Fall Apart have to be preceded by a note of caution? Do sexual images from Greek mythology need to come with a viewer-beware label?
Colleges across the country this spring have been wrestling with student requests for what are known as trigger warnings, explicit alerts that the material they are about to read or see in a classroom might upset them or, as some students assert, cause symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder in victims of rape or in war veterans.
The warnings, which have their ideological roots in feminist thought, have gained the most traction at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where the student government formally called for them. But there have been similar requests from students at Oberlin College, Rutgers University, the University of Michigan, George Washington University and other schools....

My English teacher took a moment out to explain that rape in this case, was referring to a kidnapping, not a sexual assault (or what Whoopi would call rape rape). It cleared things up without further issue.
Did your teacher explain to you anything about the
cult of Demeter and the rites of Eleusis?
We wont win the third, I assure you.
Drama queens!
I was forced to read Things Fall Apart my Sophomore year of college, the black Nigeria Rutgers University professor that taught the class was a through and through Marxist. She would go on and on to the point I once got up and walked out of her class.
Things Fall Apart, as I recall, doesn’t really feature racism in a modern standard, but shows culture clash.
The warnings are probably just for gender normative sex
Outside of engineering, college has made people dumber since the sixties.
This is a classic epidemic of hysteria, like fear of witches.
Easy.... the current crop of dolts weren’t in charge
Well, poop. So much for that example. :-)
On the other hand, anyone offended by being forced to attend classes on the normalization of bondage, dildos and gay sex edging is considered to be paleo-sexist, potentially abusive and in need of acceptance training subject to peer review before they can continue with subject-matter classes for their math degree.

What schools are requiring these classes?
No need to answer, none are.
No need to answer, none are.
Incredible how Leftists always don't want to hear an answer. They start with "no need," and then pass laws until they get to "shut up or die."
Because, of course, it's way too hard to do a Google search on "college lgbt sensitivity training" right? Or keep up with the news of, oh, I don't know, the last ten or fifteen years?
And look at your hypocrisy - you want to force everyone to have to learn all about homosexual sex in every detail - but then ban anyone from talking about the fact that they had to learn it.
Yeah, that's sanity.
What the hell are you talking about? I have had three kids graduate from college in the last 7 years. But you get your info from the media so you are superior? I don’t need to google it, I just talk to my 20 something year kids. What a hoot you are.
So you refuse to read the news.
And you deny the very existence - let alone the extremity and oppressiveness - of the homosexual sensitivity training enforced against virtually ever student in every university and college (except, apparently, the ones your kids attended).
M'kay, thanks for clearing that up.
It matches your "don't bother to reply."
LOL, so you have no direct or indirect experience with what you are talking about but you still have the need to speak. That’s great. As I said in the previous post, I get my news on this topic from people who actually went to said seminars, not pundits carrying on about them, or folks like you who carry these orientation seminars to a completely illogical extreme.
An hour or 2 seminar as a college freshman is not a class, and it covers a wide range of topics. I never indicated the orientation doesn’t exist, but they are not classes like the ones the kids sign up for. Very different things, doncha think?
And one more time, as you seem to have issues with the cotton in your ears ... the sessions are not detailed about the topics that seem to get you hot.
But for some reason, I expect more silly vitriol coming from you, because I just don’t see it the same as you.
I’m OK with that, given the nature of anonymous Internet forums.
Witnesses?
Yep. But they’re all dead. He IS Hades, after all.
You say, anonymously.
But for some reason, I expect more silly vitriol coming from you, because I just dont see it the same as you.
You say, with silly vitriol and attempting, yet again, to keep me from speaking.
LOL, you are arguing against a massive, well known, constantly discussed reality experienced by millions of people.
Therefore, except within the confines of yet another overblown, sophmoric Leftist NLP meme tactic (and when are they not?), you are irrelevent.
Being called irrelevant by an anonymous poster on an Internet forum is not much of a put down. Keep trying.
LOL, you say, anonymously.
