Blogger arrested for sneaking into Thad Cochran’s wife’s nursing home room

If the allegations prove true – and the initial evidence seems pretty compelling – this will turn out to be yet another story of a blogger going off the rails and doing the wrong thing in pursuit of a story. According to recently breaking reports, blogger Clayton Thomas Kelly of Mississippi crossed all bounds of propriety by entering the nursing home room of the wife of Senator Thad Cochran (R-Mississippi) and photographing her for use in a political story.

A Pearl man who runs a political blog is accused of sneaking into a nursing home where U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran’s wife is bedridden and photographing her, then posting the image in a video political “hit piece” on the internet.

Madison Police arrested Clayton Thomas Kelly, 28, of Pearl on Friday night on a charge of exploitation of a vulnerable adult. He’s being held on a $100,000 bond.

The information still missing at the time of this posting is precisely which “local political blog” posted the information (with the Name of Cochran’s wife, I assume), since the local media didn’t have that detail until the next morning. The missing piece here – and this is purely speculation at this point – could be that the “local blog” in question was, in fact, Kelly’s blog. Since everyone seems to agree that the information had been posted there, and then removed, I suppose that’s possible. Of course, it would require a bit of luck on the part of McDaniel’s campaign manager to have just managed to catch the post on the blog between the time it was published and then pulled, but given the tendency of campaign workers to constantly monitor Google alerts for anything mentioning their opponent’s name, it’s not beyond the realm of the possible. (See Update below.)

If this claim about the phone message and its timing turns out to be true, it adds an entirely new element to the story, but we still need to hear from Sojourner, who isn’t commenting on it yet. If she did, in fact, know about this before the police released any details, including the identity of Cochran’s wife, somebody has some explaining to do and McDaniel will have to be on top of this immediately.

UPDATE: (Jazz) The local blogger reporting on this story is saying that the offending video / pictures were posted either “two weeks ago” or April 26th, depending who you ask, so if that’s the case, the McDaniel camp couldn’t have found it in the way I surmised. Curiouser and curiouser, to quote one fable.

Every couple is different.

Some couples don't honor their vows. I cannot imagine abandoning my marriage when my husband needs me the most.

"His wife has been in this state for over fourteen years, incapacitated since early dementia started at 58. I don’t advocate what he did, but I can understand the healthy partner still needed to manage his life. I personally know of some couples where both are aware, after an onset of a chronic illness, that from this point forward, they won’t be able to full their spousal duties, and have given consent to the healthy spouse to discreetly go ahead. Every couple is different."

So the "For better or worse, in sickness and health" part is just a loose guideline and not a contract with our Creator?

The blogger wasn’t attacking the sickness or even the fact that Cochran had an affair. What he was attacking was the crony girlfriend (every story is leaving this out) lives with him, is a highly paid consultant that he took on several overseas fact finding (vacations) trips on the tax payer’s dime.

Secondly the news article is crap and a plant. The story was posted on several blogs and online news sites way before it broke in the paper the next morning. There was plenty of time for other camp to respond and Cochran knows it. He is the one trying to get political gain off of the idiot who took the picture.

I lived in Mississippi most all my life, and moved out to Texas in the past year to get a new job. I have friends in both the McDaniel Camp and the Cochran Camp, and this election has gotten particularily nasty. Cochran hasn't had to run for office since he first got elected Senator in 1978. He's from the same hometown my wife and father-in-law's from (Byram), and every time I've spoken with him he's been what I've always pictured a Southern Senator to be like (silver hair, courtly, a Gentleman, etc.).

However, Cochran has gotten entirely too comfortable being a dealmaker in the Senate. Despite the stereotype, Mississippi traditionally elects and re-elects Legislators who're superb at playing the "inside the Beltway" game- they "talk" conservative at home, but make deals behind the scenes to bring pork back to the State. John C. Stennis, James Eastland, Trent Lott, Roger Wicker, and Thad Cochran have all done it like that. While Mississippi produces skilled legislators, the State also has horrible Executive Leaders. Thad Cochran just isn't going to stick his neck out for anything unless he has political cover.

Now Chris McDaniel is the Tea Party alternative. My pro-McDaniel friends say he's the real deal, that he'll be a Mike Lee-Ted Cruz clone in the Senate. My pro-Cochran friends accuse him of using the Tea Party as a schtick, and that he's actually mealy-mouthed and doesn't actually take a stand on anything important.

What do I believe? No matter who wins, I hope both camps can come together, win the General Election in November, then fall in behind the REAL Leader of the Opposition to Barky the Dog-eater, MY Senator (and mostly likely President) Ted Cruz.

My only guess would be that the place where she was maybe was a Medicaid/Medicare facility? IOW he’s ‘rich’ and he has his momma on state aid or something?

Any idea what those numbers on the mug shot are about? I figure the column on the left might be inches, but that on the right?

no, it’s a case of “stupid redneck” not cui bono. His goal was to dramatize the horror of Cochran’s affair and showing his poor wife in the hospital.

If the senator and his wife have paid into social security what is wrong with using medicare when you need it?

Do you think there should be a means test for social security or disability?

“This has the smell of Rove and the NRSC all over it.”

You guys have a newly discovered disease “ROVE DERANGEMENT SYNDROME”.

It is a disease that formerly only afflicted democrats who hated a certain president but is now becoming an epidemic.

kind of like Carter’s grandson at Romney’s fundraiser...
I am not sure about McDaniels, have heard him speak, but I AM sure that Cochrane is across the isle a lot more than he is home, er, that is voting the will of the folks of MissiSSippi.

Actually, I don’t think anything is wrong with it.

My ‘guess’ was from the perspective of an ‘agitprop’ disruptor, that’s all. I was only trying to step into the mind of a political blogger, that’s all.

********************************************************************

“staytrue”, in response to your above comment, I’d say that YOU suffer from “ROVE WORSHIP SYNDROME”. I suspect you are either extremely GULLIBLE or are, in some capacity, on the payroll of some GOPe institution. Anyhow, I’ve copied (below the following line of asterisks) in its entirety a posting you made several days ago. That posting of yours clearly explains who and what you are and how YOU feel about those of us who are consistently constitutional conservatives.

######################################################################

“I am GOPe and we want practical common sense solutions to today’s problems. Most of the time, these solutions tend toward conservatism but we listen to all proposals first and evaluate each on the merits.

The conservatives want conservative, dogmatic solutions that have worked in the past to rebuild America.

The conservative method is all fine and good, but you guys want to win with 51% or less and jam your theocratic dogmatic agenda down Americans throats without convincing them that it is right first.

This is why no one likes you. You tend toward being screaming bullies. And this is why you fail.”
