***** The first two cases of MERS involved health care workers who contracted the disease while in Saudi Arabia. Both also reportedly were in the US visiting family. Both used commercial modes of transit, potentially exposing many travelers. Given the reported incubation period . . .the next several days may become very interesting.
Now this isn’t good at all. Secondary transmission confirmed.
“The unnamed man reports good health after having close contact with the first patient on two occasions in Indiana, but did not seek medical attention following the discovery.
I wonder how many people this lamebrain infected since he decided not to seek medical attention.
No no no. No connection whatever. Don't you dare think that. Don't you dare say that.
Is MERS going to be the next 9/11?
Not good.......not good at all.
"Health officials now must track down fellow travelers who were around the newest case, and this time it will be more challenging: There were more flights involved. He traveled on May 1 on flights
- from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia,
- first to London,
- then to Boston,
- then to Atlanta,
- and finally to Orlando.
He went to a hospital on May 8 and was placed in isolation. . .
- As early as the first flight, the latest case was suffering fever, chills and a slight cough *****vs.***** YahooNews May 16th
"It took the patient more than a week before he sought help in an emergency department in Orlando, Florida. Once he arrived, he waited nearly 12 hours in the ER before staff recognized a MERS link and placed him in an isolation room. The patient DID NOT HAVE SIGNS OF a respiratory infection, NOT EVEN A COUGH.[ID:nL1N0O002W]"- Note discrepancy
****fever, chills, slight cough on first flight vs. no signs of respiratory infection, not even a cough.*****
Who to believe?
Quarantine Saudi Arabia.
Terrible reporting...
This patient in Florida potentially infected 20 other hospital workers who are all in quarantine for 14 days...
I think two are known to be infected...
Did you see this...
Silently among us: Scientists worry about milder cases of MERS

It is becoming increasingly clear that people can be infected with MERS without developing severe respiratory disease, said Dr David Swerdlow, who heads the MERS response team at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“You don’t have to be in the intensive care unit with pneumonia to have a case of MERS,” Swerdlow told Reuters. “We assume they are less infectious (to others), but we don’t know.”
...
“Asymptomatic carriers of diseases can represent a major route for a pathogen to spread,” said Dr Amesh Adalja of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
“Just think of Typhoid Mary,” he said
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
The MERS victims should be convinced by whatever means to go to Washington D.C. and meet with as many Senators, Congressmen and “Executives” as they can. Coughing and sneezing while visiting is to be encouraged. Amnesty granters should receive the consequences of their stupidity. They visited evils on us with their “let everybody in” now let them suffer. I no longer feel pity!
The real question that needs to be asked is why Obama has not mentioned this, nor has he put any travel restrictions on Mid east MERS infected countries as far as entering the US.
Once again, he isn’t doing his job. I say it is because he wants Americans to contract the virus.
This is a non story. The guy has not needed ANY medical treatment (in the story). Truth is this is not a virus of concern IF you live in a modern medical nation. ALL of the those who are in the US have been treated (where needed) and are doing fine.
This is only deadly if you live in some third world dump like Saudia Arabia or any where else in arab land
I am so screwed.
IOW, they’re muslims.
There is probably a quick cure for all MERS cases...it is intravenous Vitamin C. The knowledge is there in a few in the medical community. IV-C cures a host of things, viral, bacterial, etc. It will cure bites from poisonous snakes and poisonous spiders. IV-C, and it is so good that a doctor 60 years ago cured 60 out of 60 cases of polio with intravenous vitamin C.
Why isn’t it being used now...in every hospital, in every doctor’s office, in this country and around the world?
Ping!
