P.S...."The New Republic" (sourced above) is a long-time liberal, Obama-loving, gay marriage loving, leftist propaganda spewing, etc. etc. you-know-the-drill, fish-wrap magazine.

And that is bad?

I don’t think it’s correct to label the LTTE as hindu fanatics — their goal was a Tamil state — Tamil Eelam, so the movement was racial rather than religious imo

That’s probably a fair claim. Tamil nationalism rather than Hindu fanaticism.
Just as most of the early Palestinian groups were nationalist rather than Muslim in orientation, with many having numerous Christian members and even leaders.

I notice the author doesn't mention the 1000 or whatever it was Hindus that were burned alive by the Moslems, before the riots that killed a smaller number of Moslems.Actually, 59 people died in a train fire after the train was attacked by a mob. As with most such incidents, it is disputed whether the fire was intentional or accidental.
In the riots that followed, 254 Hindus and somewhere between 790 and 2000+ Muslims died. With the higher number of dead Muslims likely closer to the truth, since the government in power at the time was anti-Muslim.
I'm not a fan of Islam, but let's try to stick to the actual facts, rather than hyperbolic exaggeration.

Thank you for the correction.

The vast majority of Hindus are good people. In fact I like some of my Hindu friends over some "christian" ones.Me too, Moorings. Plus, I like their food better:)

"there is no evangelical strain in Hindusim of any sort and no concept of killing infidels." Wrong. See link I posted down-thread.
Hindutva promotes one people, one language, one culture, endorsing cast discrimination and discrimination against religious minorities which should be subdued or wiped out in the name of Hindu supremacy.

He sounds like an Indian Reagan. Good on them. Hope they benefit, as a country, as much as we did from Reagan.
To: Black Agnes
I hope you aren’t so gullible regarding campaign propaganda in this country.

He’s not Muslim. That’s a step in the right direction for India.
To: Black Agnes
Wasn’t aware a Muslim was even running.

They’ve had Muslim PM’s in the past.
To: Black Agnes
Are you sure? In recent times?
"India did not have any prime minister from Muslim community (1947-2011). However Mr Manmohansingh (Sikh) and Rajiv Gandhi (converted christian) were minority PM's of India."

Hmmm, you may be right. Still, it’s a good thing he isn’t Muslim.

My wife (from Mumbai).... Would that be Bombay .... in English?

I'm trying to think of a similar situation here. Oh, we can't have that! .... she's trying to impose "Sarah-ia"!
